The problem is that solutions are so one sided and political. "It's because we're cutting mental health support". "It's because we're not putting them all behind bars".

Why can't we recognize that not all people want help? Why can't we recognize that people that don't want the help should be arrested, and repeat offenders should have the book thrown at them?

Every decision maker is so terrified of making hard decisions because it makes them look bad to their voters that we have no decisions being made. And here we are.

If you're going in to office, at some point politicians accept they can't make everyone happy. But they also recognize they need to keep their job. Doing nothing accomplishes that. Or a new iniative about X - that always looks good.

Random but sort of related: a family friend of ours works at an additions center. When the NDP came into power, all their funding got cut, which was unexpected because it had been stable for years. Was totally counter-intuitive to what I expected to hear. Now, as of a few months ago, people who need to use addictions facilities can use their AHS number.

For the NDP to tout being so socially conscious, they certainly don't put their money where their mouth is.

Increase funding, make the programs and help actually available and viable; it's cheaper than what we're doing now.

Don't want help? Repeat offender? Throw them in a pit.
