Rural youngsters probably will be slammed pretty hard. Rural white people usually proclaim a vehicle as being their most valued possession as its the first real taste of freedom away from the farm. It would explain a lot of central USA and Canada obsession with the combustion car, even though technically its a constantly depreciating liability. Its the "luke skywalker gets his first spaceship ride" type thing, which I personally have no experience with - but can understand how its important for mental sanity of rural living, even if it is just a greyhound bus and not the millenium falcon.

Realistically, you take your first Greyhound bus trip to the city to go to the car dealership to buy your first beater.

Don't ask me how they survive out there without internet.

In the city, meh - just go scooter and electric car (very soon) is fine for short trips. City to city do the plane.
Thanks for helping my psychedelic stocks. Clearly a good purchase.

    Never rode one, never would.
    Is this an age thing?

Taking a Greyhound bus seemed to be one of those Canadian things to do.

Spent so much time in my younger teenage years on one it didn't bother me for the trip times.

Plenty of childhood trips between my parents seperate cities, also shitloads when I worked in the O&G field, pre-boom, going to and from camp.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

80s/90s greyhound wasn't horrible and at least was cheap.

I looked at the price of a ticket to ontario a while back before they folded... Westjet and aircanada were much cheaper.

And lets be clear - they've been gone in the west for a few years now... It wasn't an unmitigated disaster. Now the easterners have to catch up...

Actually you might be surprised how many old people, sick people, handicapped etc who no longer have are licenses or are not allowed to drive, that ride the bus in small towns to go to appointments in the city etc and have no other means of transport. I would say that was most of the ridership at this point which sadly is not enough to sustain a business like Greyhound, but the truth is it will have a pretty real effect on them.
Yeah, my great aunt lives in rural Manitoba and in the late 90s she had to take the Greyhound in to Winnipeg every week for chemo since she couldn't drive. Certainly an edge case but it does make we wonder how/if those kinds of things will be handled with the loss of a major bus service. It's easy to say "good riddance" if you never take the bus, but most of the folks who do regularly aren't posting on car forums.

I don't know if it's as transparent, but greyhound leaving - brought us on-it in the local area. First student didn't exactly give up those viable routes... The smaller center routes - there's a bunch of smaller companies that are running people and more specifically the freight in that void left after greyhound left our market.

Good to hear the gaps are being filled. I have no love for Greyhound specifically, but I'd hate to see lower-volume routes disappear altogether.

. If there is a market for it, someone will offer service. I’ll miss shipping large car items like wheels and tires via Greyhound Courier Express. Way cheaper than anyone else.
that is a big part of problem .... doing things too cheap
