Unceded land debates is a whole other kettle of fish, a lot of that in BC.
On a factual basis, the situation in most of BC is wildly different than the treaties that were signed for the plains Indians.

    Some info about it.

For one, this is a mice study so it has certain caveats. Regardless, what I find really fascinating is how entire populations differ.
Damn, do I get reparation for ww2? I'm traumatized by my great grand fathers experoence, and my great grandma who was in a nazi camp!.

I am traumatized. Give me money.

The acknowledgements should just be acknowledging that we are on land that WAS traditionally, supposedly, Native American.

Unceded land debates is a whole other kettle of fish, a lot of that in BC.

Regardless it’s all stupid and I judge anyone who utters a lane acknowledgment severely.
Why did it belong to Natives? Where are there cities? Didn't they just wander North America following herds of Buffalo and shit? Wouldn't you have to set up a permanent community to call something yours??

And how many natives were in Canada?? Like a million people laid claimed to a country as big as Canada??

And now that I'm googling. I didn't know they didn't have a written language. The only reason we know anything is the Europeans wrote down history as told to them and as it happened.

I don't have much faith in storytelling as a form of record keeping.

Let me correct myself. According to Britannica online, there were only 200,000 natives in Canada before Europeans began to colonize.

All this outrage because 200k people think they owned 10 million square km?

Could they read and write? I was under the impression the French just dropped their loads and then left.

To be honest from the very beginning when I saw the use of ONLY GPR data was to make confirmed burials or "coffins" conclusions as the researcher claimed to find. I have been saying from the very beginning that using only GPR data to make any definitive conclusions of the subsurface without some sort of excavation to confirm is very bad practice, and bad science; I don't care how tight the grid is.

I admit I have not been keeping totally up to date with this story, but if I remember correctly, the PhD researcher was a lady professor from a university out east. She had never reported or made her data public for any sort of peer review that I had seen. Just to clarify, bones cannot be identified by GPR. GPR data can only find disturbances in the strata of the soil and loose rock. Now I'm definitely not expert on the subject at all, but burial, filled in well, latrine etc would all appear indistinguishable on GPR data alone. If they reached these conclusions using GPR AND seismology etc I'd be more inclined to believe.

I just can't believe the FN's actually went and excavated. They had it in the bag, everyone had accepted it as fact that the GPR anomalies were all burials without question. Now all the anomalies are being questioned. I do believe that there are going to be burials at these sites. People (young and old) die for various reasons and need to be buried. Very bad things happened at these schools. I am questioning the method used by the researcher to reach her flawed conclusions purely on science basis.

The figure of “215 children” that went viral was actually later downgraded to “200 targets of interest” by lead researcher Dr. Sarah Beaulieu of the University of the Fraser Valley, who was hired by the Tk’emlups First Nation to conduct ground-penetrating radar (GPR) work on the former school grounds.

Because no excavations have taken place, there is no way to claim with absolute certainty that “missing children” are buried in the soil: what people are referring to as “unmarked graves” are actually soil disturbances detected by GPR.

Beaulieu herself cautioned that only a forensic investigation could confirm that these disturbances were indeed burials, as the radar cannot see bones or bodies.
    https://tnc.news/2023/05/31/fact-che...ains-kamloops/

The initial conclusion of "yep those are kids' graves" to "umm not sure yet but definitely interesting" is pretty appalling.

In the presentation of her findings, Beaulieu said the GPR survey showed common features of burial sites, such as convex patterns of anomalies at the top of and vertical patterns at the sides of the possible graves. While these features aren’t exclusive to burials, in areas where they are expected, they can add to the likelihood of their existence, Beaulieu said.

Adding to the supporting evidence of graves were surface depressions correlating with the subsurface anomalies observed in the GPR data and an east to west configuration of those anomalies consistent with Christian burial sites, Beaulieu said.

On May 27, Tk’emlúps Kúpki7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir said 215 unmarked graves had been located using the technology, but on Thursday, Beaulieu said that number was reduced following her initial survey when taking into account records of previous archaeological work and construction that could have impacted the results.
