They should provide cash wrapped in blankets.

I’d imagine Christ would have had an amazing grip on handlebars if he’d wanted to ride a bike. No chance of losing his grip

I wonder how many people understand that reference. It's interesting that some of us know about this, even though there is only one confirmed case of it being attempted.

No, an apology is not enough. The Catholic Church oozes money. Why they can't allocate some of that to back up the legitimacy of their apology? Or do something (anything) for the native communities. Paying to have fresh water provided would be a good start.

    Yes, paying is the answer.
No one has tried that before.

Where did the natives get their water before they were colonized?

First nations are leading a 2030 Olympic bid in Vancouver at a cost of $3.5-$4 Billion. That buys a lot of fresh water. I'm sick of this "do more for native communities" horseshit. They need to do something for themselves, playing the victim card forever will just lead to more suffering. No more money.

Can they all get circumcised so they become less sensitive?

Reparations should only go to the people the Church victimized directly. How many of those are alive now?

There IS no "answer". They cannot take back the past. But in our society, monetary compensation for ANY injustices is the best we've come up with so far. And while there was something like 30m agreed upon by the Catholic church, a) I'm not sure they've actually paid it all out and b) That is a pittance compared to the generations of pain and suffering they caused.

This isn't about them necessarily being helpless, or whether they should now be able to stand on their own two feet. That's an entirely different conversation with a lot to be said on both sides, and I imagine our viewpoints would be more in sync than you'd initially think. We're simply talking about the pervasive evil that occurred throughout the residential school system, and if the Catholic church is *truly* sorry today for what they did, to actually make a monetary donation sizable enough to actually make a difference rather than just a token. In my mind, Canada has taken ownership for our part in what I believe is over 2 billion of reparations. Now THAT is significant.

I have aunts/uncles that were in residential schools. Their not as old as one may think. Residential schools were not all closed at the same time.

You're forgetting it's intergenerational. Same reason why I'm Keto. My ancestors ate potatoes, everyday until they couldn't. Many people starved causing great trauma. The thought of starch and carbs invokes anxiety.
