Not saying I agree with the random simplistic comments I made, just throwing them out there against the incredibly lazy "impossible to do anything about it" argument.
It's not impossible. Nothing is impossible unless you put a price on desegregation. We could end it tomorrow if we wanted. Give into demands. Tear up the treaties by giving the land back. Segregation over.

The Trudeau and Chretien approach you and Buster want, has been tried, and failed hard. Which is why we're further away now than we were 60 years ago.

The approach I advocate is inevitable. It's just a matter of when. Everybody would be better off if we adopted the good parts of the White Paper, but improved on them in areas that it fell short.

Sorry where did you learn residential schools started with good intentions?

If you cared to learn that your understanding of residential schools is completely wrong you can so so here:

    https://indigenousfoundations.arts.u...school_system/

This was the entire debate with a few others in another thread that tried to spin residential schools in a positive light. I believe misterman tried to claim the chiefs were willing participants and happily sending their kids there.

We now have hundreds of kids buried at a residential school that were never returned to their families and people still gloss over the atrocities.

You can go back to arguing against reality all you want. In the end it really doesn't matter that you're wrong, what matters is that it happed and what the outcome was. The irony of you is how you continue to detract away from any meaningful dialogue about a subject you seem to care about.

How to support survivors of residential schools
Hint: Already been mentioned here... Its money.
They need your money for support.
Not sympathy, recognition, empathy... But $$$

The only good statement I've read about this terrible news.

Pat Pratt-Malbeuf, a ceremonial elder in Quinton, Sask., with four generations of family members sent to residential schools, is calling for a spiritual ceremony a path forward.

“Those brothers, sisters, children that never came home, ceremony’s the only thing that’s going to save them,” she told CTV News with tears in her eyes.

“No blaming. Let’s just move together. We’re all one.”

I read more on this topic. And damn, does this really look similar to China/Xinjiang. Religious and cultural genocide.

Ive been trying to confirm that the number of deaths is significantly higher than what would have been seen elsewhere in Canada at the time.
    https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/y...n=NorthAmerica

What I found so far is that in the 50's the youth death rate in Canada was above 5 per 1000 youths per year. Assuming it was flat previously to 1890 would show that 2 deaths per school year would be relatively in line with the entire nation. This school in kamloops would be 4-6 per year if you assume most deaths happened before 1950.

It's pretty obvious that there was a lot of cultures destroyed and abuse. I was /am still wanting to know if there was murder or genocide as some sources claim.

    Interesting articles
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.the...eir-names.html
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.the...rticle8786118/

Yea there is a lot of messed up stuff in this star article. Shit. Might be a school in AB where a way higher percentage died at a school for 'farming and labour'

Yeah - number prior to ww1 was 1/3 - got closer to 1/5 as we approached ww2 and got basic medicine like antibiotics.

    this is the 0-5 range...

After doing some additional reading my approach appears to be racist.

You're doing the right thing in questioning it from both sides.
Death rate was high back then for children. Had relatives with siblings that didn't make it past 20yrs old. TB, kicked by a horse, etc.
If disease got in the school, you see how covid spread.
But I don't want to drag antivaxxxx in this thread.
Not defending it. Notifying next of kin is what should have happened.

The cynical part of me just assumes the church is laughing its way to the bank on the insurance payouts for those churches

I would ask they "reconcile" with 24 Sussex as well, but the amount of money that would be funnelled to Bombardier for the rebuild isn't worth it.

Varg Vikernes looks like Santa Claus these days
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

I'll rephrase this, would the act be considered a hate crime, by definition. Serious question.
