Have any of you guys done this for your home? What are some considerations and average costs associated with this besides the price of the hood itself?

Don't all new range hoods have to be vented outside these days.
Factor in some construction / roofing costs.
If you are going to follow code.

Yes I did this on our previous home.
1) Vented outside
2) Is the hole cut high enough to accommodate the hood you want to install, AKA plumbing and your desired height.

If that's code, I don't think it needs to go through the roof. Mine goes through the exterior wall. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I think only 99.8% of hood fans make over 140dB and offer CFM of about 0.0026 which makes them completely fucking useless and infuriates everyone on that floor of the house with the simply deafening noise. It will be difficult to find one that violates this design standard.
Venta-hood. No baffles. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's what makes the noise.
Don't get a hood fan with these:

I put in a Broan at the old house, it did a great job of clearing out fumes with almost no noise. Had to totally redo the ducting. Not hard though as there’s not much there.
High volume hood fan, and quiet? Now that's living in luxury.

My point was I guess that you can't vent it inside the home anymore.

We just did this a couple months ago. Range hoods come in a ton of styles and prices so depends on what you need and want to spend. You got CFM and then Sones for ratings on them so check those to compare units, some will look identical and be cheaper but it will have less cfm and a higher sones. If you cook lots or have a gas stove i think you need to be above 600 cfm but that adds to the challenge because now you might need to have some type of make up air system in the house because the hood fan is sucking too much air out(i think i read you could also leave the window open if its on). I went with one thats 600cfm and a max sones of 5 and compared to my old one its night and day, on max you can still carry a convo no problem and i can cook bacon without the whole house smelling like it lol Venting it outside should also be pretty easy
Its definitely not hard to find a good hood fan, you just have to look at the specs and not price aloneThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
