    Default Q7 timing chain

So need to replace the timing chain on the 2014 Q7 TFSI. Got a quote for 5K in parts and 5K in labor. Anyone else replaced this on the said SUV? its damn expensive.

what should i do? Any other german car specialist shop I should be calling?

    cheers

I thought "the Audi timing chain" was an issue in their 4.2L V8's...
Am I wrong, or is it also "common" on these engines?

This one has the 3.0 V6 superchaged eng. Its pretty loose since its making ticking/clicking sound.

    Get a quote from TuneDub.

Make sure you do the tensioner and guides and anything else that is cheap to replace while you're already paying for labor to pull the engine. $10K seems high but see what TuneDub says - their price will give you a better indication of what's fair.

It's common on every audi engine ever. Yes, seriously.

Yeah, the 3.0T is notorious for it. One of the reasons I got rid of my S4.

OP talk to Tunedub if you haven't. Their prices are very competitive and they specialize in VW/Audi. I think you want to consider doing supercharger oil and thermostat while they have everything torn apart, IIRC.

A timing chain is $5k in parts?

I understand the labour bit, but wtf is the chain and tensioner made of?

That's probably an Audi Dealer's part cost so 100+% markup. Parts are around $1500 USD IIRC.

Do anyone say talk to George at tunedub yet… haha. Anything Audi/vw should always go to George for great service and competitive pricing.

Yeah, go talk to George. Honest guy and he took care of my S4 for the final year that I had it.

This. I chalk it up as early adaptor and bad luck. I lost 2 thermostats during warranty period.

It's not really attributable to either one; IIRC they just have a really poor housing design on the water pump and it's basically a wear item. My S4 was a b8.5, so not even close to the beginning of the production of that engine.

Holy fack what a disaster. My boss told me he had a Q7 and would never own an Audi again. I have a Q5 with a 2.0 but its a 2015 so I think i dodged the issue... knock on wood. Shitty deal for OP

My wife wants an Audi. This thread is giving me a lot of reasons to run away from that brand.
