Well I pulled the trigger on a sonos arc and sub. Got everything hooked up today and ya, it sounds really good in this little space I have.
Throw on a good Atmos movie. Gravity, John wick (particularly #3 in the glass floor scenes), ready player 1. Be blown away.

I'm assuming regular Netflix movies aren't atmos capable and I will have to upgrade? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Well I talked them down a bit and paid $1840 all in for the arc and sub. Not bad. For my living room TV, I might go with a used playbar and sub, mainly because when I do have people over, I'd like something decent to sit around the table and listen to.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Formula 1 drive to survive on Netflix has a decent Atmos mix. Think from s2 on it was in Atmos.

Regular Netflix movies sound like shit. The compression that Netflix uses really butchers sound quality imo. You're better off putting in an actual Blu Ray like a caveman or play your own sources. Congrats on the system
Thanks guys. I have an issue though. Now I don't have enough HDMI ports for all of this stuff. I have the shaw box, xbox, kodi box and now the arc.
I think I need an hdmi switch with arc but not really sure what to look for in a switch. Can any of you guys recommend one? Are there some superior to others?
Yeah Netflix Atmos sucks. The compression is roughly 10:1 compared to the proper lossless track. On a cheap soundbar or something like a Sonos though people sometimes don't mind the compressed tracks because they perceive louder as better and those systems can't reproduce the lossless audio properly in the first place. You also need a Netflix UHD/Premium subscription to get the Atmos data. If you do a back-to-back test with DD+ vs True HD/Atmos on a setup that can handle it, the difference is easily noticeable to the average person. With DD+, the subtle detail is mostly gone and everything is a lot less punchy/visceral. There is a big difference in the LFE track as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. For a 2 hour movie, Netflix DD+ uses around 690MB and proper True HD/Atmos lossless audio would be in the range of 5.5GB for the audio track only. For the entire movie including video, Netflix 4K bitrates are around 8-16Mbps and a good UHD BluRay is around 80-100 Mbps.
Someone correct me if there is another way around this, but I don't think you can use HDMI switches with the Sonos Arc because the eARC is treated as an HDMI-Out, so your sources are limited to the number of compatible inputs your TV has separate from the eARC HDMI port. If you have a lot of sources, a traditional receiver setup is much easier to manage and also has no codec limitations. You might be able to do it with a switch and something like the HD Fury Arcana, but I don't know off the top of my head. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Your TV should be able to receive from an HDMI switch then push the audio to the Sonos via eArc.
One input used from HDMI switch to TV, second HDMI port pushes audio to Sonia via eArc.
Only limitation is how many ports your HDMI switch has. But that’s not really the point of a clean Sonos setup.

Ya im not really sure what u should do. I have 3 hdmi ports and the arc only works on arc, so maybe ill just have to be ghetto and switch things back and forth.
Anyways, here is the setup. Few more pics on the walls and it'll be done.
Do you guys still recommend the sonos arc? Did you get the sub or rear speakers?
You shouldn’t need an hdmi switch. Everything just goes into the tv and then from the tv to the arc. I’ve got my ps5, Xbox, and n64, chrome cast all into the tv and then one single one out to the arc. Everything works great except DTS which should be fixed soon. Or I’ll just finally get an hd fury arcana
I need an Atmos budget setup. Details please. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I didn't know Sonos was a standard anyone cared about. Unless you crave bass bloat

Pretty hard to compete with their Arc sound bar for an all in one that doesn’t look like ass. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I was waiting for BF deals for the Sonos but they just raised prices in Canada, lame!
I would be willing to buy a 20-30% off someone if they come across one.
Sonos doesn’t really go on sale, to the best of my knowledge.
Costco has a version of the ARC that is $50 off, that doesn’t include Alexa support.

Yeah, I was mostly waiting for rears and sub to potentially go on sale because they have in the past. Arc went from 949 to 1049 at Costco
