Gutter guards - worthwhile?

My gutters are clogged, and despite cleaning them out 1-2 times a year, they get re-clogged. Are gutter guards effective? How much do they cost? Are there different types?

Don't own any yet but the consensus from a bunch of vids I've watched on YT is that the ones with a fine stainless mesh seem to be the "best", but are also the most $$$.
Costco Canada carries the stainless mesh type on-line and the cheaper aluminum with small holes variety in-store. Depending on the type of debris you are expecting, one of these may be suitable. Don't use the plastic mesh or foam inserts. Total garbage.

Seems the Costco ones are $299 for 100 ft for the mesh ones. Probably worth the money for me.

I keep seeing a commercial for "leaf guard" gutter system. It's in the states, and I am too lazy today to see if you can get it up here. The premise behind them is sound in theory, but, with the pitch of most of the roofs I have seen in Calgary, I am wondering if the water velocity would defeat the purpose of having gutters...

I dunno, seems like a cool idea, in practice though, I am not sure how good they would be.

I actually think if I built a house in the country, I would not have gutters at all and just let the water flow off into a rock border. Gutters piss me off.

I put them on the old house. Worked great. Water flow was not an issue.

Cost $1000 back then, nobody knew what they were so they were cheap.

Took the guy not even two hours so labour is not an issue.

I put the expensive woven metal mesh kind on our house. Read tons of reviews of all different types, and ended up going with this type, as its supposed to be the best for spruce needles.

It works well in most areas, but not well on others, like where a valley meets the gutter, the mesh slows water from entering gutter, and much of the water spills over gutter onto sidewalk. Its has to be cleaned of debris periodically, to allow water to run through it, otherwise the gutter guard gets bits of shingle sand and tree debris caught in it, and the water flows over the gutter guard.

It works great for blocking leaves from getting in gutter. Overall its better having it on than not having it.

LoL, I admit I've done the same thing! It's pretty reckless considering the lightning risk.
The last time I recall doing that I think the mosquitoes got a full ounce of my blood. It. Was. Horrible!

Much more sketchy on a two-story house with a narrow side yard. Only way to clean my gutters is to be on the roof. Very unsafe during a rainstorm.

I went with these last spring and no complaints. Fairly cheap and easy to install. Previously I had to clean gutters twice a year.

^ Those look kinda similar to the ones Costco carries in-store.
Any concerns with snow/ice buildup or potential damming in the winter? I talked to my roofing company and the owner mentioned these are issues that he's seen. He doesn't sell or install any either.

Ive been in my house for 3 years, 2 of 3 had a bit of ice buildup, the last with the guards was one of them. Cant say for certain if they are the reason or not. In previous homes it changed year to year with the weather.. (heavy snow, warmer weather etc)
