Default Calgarians can't handle yield on solid green left turns?

The City has been taking out the yield on solid green lights all over the place and replacing the lights with advance green only signals. A lot of places where they have done this, they haven't extended the turn lane length at all ,it's irritating as all hell now when you just have to sit there with no oncoming traffic having to wait for the next cycle or two 15 cars back or more. A lot of turning lanes backup into the through lanes now. IIRC, Edmonton has dual turns on yield on solid green.

Fuck me I was just wondering why I have been running way more red left turn lights. This makes sense.

This is typical of traffic engineering. Build to the lowest common denominator of idiot, instead of making less idiots on the road in the first place. Edmonton is eliminating yield on greens too where they can. The really annoying one is how any new or redesigned intersections are cutting out the ability to make a right turn on red after stopping. They are flipping the lanes so that the straight through lane is also the right hand turn lane. You get stuck behind the guy going straight and can't make your right hand turn until a green light comes.

People not yielding correctly in intersection turns, specifically left turns across traffic are one of the top fatality type of accidents in cities. But not to worry, they're ramping up speed enforcement.........

My favorite is the super narrow lanes they've been putting in some places for "traffic calming", and the second it snows people can't even stay in their lane anymore. Downtown has a couple special ones where the lines are painted so bad you can't even drive straight anymore LOL

No different than the fact that 90% of stop signs in the could/should be yields, which is how most drivers treat them anyway. I've given up trying to understand anything the city does.

Maybe pride week had them running short of straight lane control signs, but this is a bad sub.

The right lane? Required to turn right.
The left lane? Required to turn left.
Everyone who enters this intersection? Required to go straight.

Same thing as them combining both school and playground zones because people are to stupid to know the difference.

Lol, I can't tell you how many times someone in the curb lane has tried to turn wide and then flipped out when I'm holding the 2nd lane on the inside of the divider.

I drive this route daily, and the amount of idiots that give me the finger or yell at me at the lights afterwards because they don't understand signage or 'curb to curb' is astounding.

Has anyone done a right hand turn in downtown Melbourne? I think I understand the concept but I was too chicken to try it when I was there. I just did three left hand turns like fedex and got lost lol.

Be honest though. You know it's going to happen, but you do it anyways, lol! No different than any dual left turns, like the one from 4th Ave turning onto Macleod (North) and you are on the outside turn lane.

Basically if you ever want to get free autobody work, just install a dash cam and do those type of turns repeatedly and you're golden.

Fucking hate that intersection. I avoid it like the plague because people can't read how to turn there.

They are also switching a lot of lights so you can't turn right on a red. So frustrating sitting there waiting with an obviously safe turn to make, but we have to set it up for people who can't pry their eyes from their cell phone to check left for traffic.

People have a hard enough time also on the 10th st bridge during rush hour with the lights showing which lanes are open.
