Default Bought Car In Cali - Recommend Escrow Service

I bought a 67 Camaro, it's located in California, I am in Florida. I have family down from Canada right now and can't get there to pay in person (what I would typically do). I find myself handling everything remotely and maybe feeling my age, because I'm trying to facilitate this private sale in the new world haha. I am apprehensive to wire this much money to the seller. I have seen pictures of the title/registration, no concerns. I'm sure it will all be good, but I would still prefer to use an escrow service to facilitate the transaction if I can't get there in person.

Does anyone have experience with an escrow service they would recommend?

Edit: off BAT? ‘67 with the 383?

    What part of California?

What has BAT suggested? Perhaps they can get involved by receiving the title on your behalf? You are sending them $5k afterall...

    I've done this several ways...

    1) Get a copy of the title (check), copy of the seller's DL and a verifiable contact at his bank. Have the seller deliver the title to the bank branch along with a pre-paid Fedex; banker sends title when the wire is received.

    2) If you know a dealer in the area, have the seller deliver the car and title to the dealer; dealer and seller meet and seller will instruct the dealer to release the car and title when he receives the wire.

Both of those options are potentially free.

I've also used a transportation company that will act in a similar way to the dealer scenario - they collect the car and the title and hold it until the seller tells them he's received payment... You're going to need transport anyways, so... They charge $1,000 for this, in addition to the cost of transport.

There are attorneys that do this as well, but the cost will be even higher...

I too have used the bank for this deal. They get the title, verify it and certify no liens on the vehicle.
Tough part is getting a contact that you believe at the bank.

The bank didn't want to get involved.

The bank didn't want to get involved in the transaction. He sent the title and registration today via Fedex. Everything is going well, until it's not haha

    Seller sounds co-operative. That's a good sign.

I have 2 weeks off right now... Would be a fun road trip if you can back out of the shipping fees lol. I would have to clear it with @baygirl first though

Aren’t you tall? You do not want to do this. I have a sparco wheel and Racing seat and can barely get my legs under the wheel let alone regular buckets and a giant ‘67 wheel… these cars are tiny lol I won’t fit when I put my headliner in.

Yeah I have shrunk to 6'3" now. But I would be afraid to drive it anyways. I would take my truck down and trailer it back.

Just an update, don't ever go with BaT shipping. I've used various companies over the years with always good results, but this has been a terrible experience. The guy who has my car doesn't speak English, doesn't answer the phone, etc.

The seller took a bunch of photos before handing it over.
