It’s cute when people assume climate initiatives have anything to do with helping the planet.

    Adorable.
Sigh. Yes, I know it's all political. Carbon tax does little if anything, etc etc. I don't frequent Beyond as I used to and I imagine it's been discussed ad nauseam. My point being that even if it's little more than smoke and mirrors by this point, at least the optics are there, and you can't tell me not a single initiative makes at least a small impact. Its still better than when we grew up... where there was a small mention of an ozone breach and kinda left at that.

We are basically fucked anyway, and going to have to rely on technology to bail us out. I'd still like to see us work toward trying to remain on the planet a bit longer before that.

We're hardly fucked. We're in an glacial interstitial anyhow, in 10K years it's going to be another ice age.

Climate hysteria has become the new religion. Arguing that people driving SUV's is going to end civilization as we know it, is a lot like arguing that the earth is only 6000 years old. It really demonstrates putting a set of ideals ahead of understanding even a fraction of science on the matter.

You and I? No, we'll most likely be fine. Floods, hurricanes, tornados - we don't see a lot of that here. But as it intensifies elsewhere from year to year, this area will get ours soon enough. In BC, it's uncontrollable wildfires already. I'm guessing they'll be dealing with floods soon enough. I'm going with tornados in these parts.

We aren't seeing any intensification of these events on a world scale yet. When do you predict these weather events to intensify? And why do you predict they will intensify at all?

Yep. Smart people knew this decades ago. But easy way to get another tax going.

The carbon tax revenue should be spent on technology innovation more thAn anything. Not ev subsidy. Ev won't get us anywhere.

The glaring problem is still that there is not an environmental crisis that needs to be fixed. Whether this imaginary problem can be fixed by EV's or some other technology is moot, as there is no observable problem to fix.

The real "problem" is that oil resources are finite. And one day we will need a different source of energy from a pure scarcity point of view. So it does warrant putting some effort and funding into alternative sources. But transferring the worlds wealth to make the rich richer, and price poor people out of the market, all because of the big scary potential of the temperature going up 1 degree(which would only create more available temperate living area on earth, a good thing), is a global scam that makes Bernie Madoff look like a public servant.

Doesn't matter. This will reflect poorly on your social credit score. Please report to the nearest re-Neducation camp within 24h for a 2 month course on proper work attendance. Failure to arrive within the time specified will result in an additional attendance requirement for your immediate family.

All I can think is how much electricity that would have made if channeled properly.

I bet the china flood can be chalked up to poor infrastructure and drainage, the german one seems more like the 1000 year flood.

The other way around. That flood in China got more rain in 2hrs than Germany's flood in 3 days.

China is still world champ in top 5 flood deaths of all time.
