If you're a deadbeat uninvolved parent, you're a deadbeat uninvolved parent. It won't matter if you're a stay at home deadbeat parent or a working deadbeat parent.
I always think first and foremost it always comes down to what you provide your family emotionally more than fiscally, but that doesn't mean you are bad one way or the other. Just make sure you are giving you child what they need to grow and develop, and that comes largely from the influence of parents.
If you have a stay at home instead of being dinks, you still need to make sure your kids are still being properly socialized, raised being versed and educated in basic financial management (at a minimum), and understand how life works as they grow.
If both parents have careers and work outside the home, it is important that when they do get home that their kids are getting the attention and affection they require on top of the same stuff as if there is a stay at home parent.
Stay at home... Double working parents... Single working parents... It doesn't really matter so much so long as you still parent well. If you think of a kid as an an accessory for others to take care of, then you are fucked either way.

Low incomers in BC just pumping kids out.
God I hate the state of the woke media. I'm sure not having children is great for the future of Canada.
Tap, Rack, BANG!
Sorta related. Apparently an issue in BC these days. Limits on pricing has driven some infant daycares out of business.

Weird that capping prices reduces supply. Who could have seen that coming?

Truly the answer is government run infant care, comrade.

My parents brought in my grandma from the old country to look after my brother and I, vise daycare. Why doesn't everyone just have grand parents?
Government is good and efficient. We just need to add more government efficiency to this and the supply will balance itself.
"The only way any center will operate is if they charge upwards of $2000 a month to parents, thats a fact" Holy shit balls. I thought the "expensive" daycares here at $1600 a month was nuts, if they are saying $2000 is the floor then something is fucked. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The idea of two working parent households was pushed because the only way to get growth in the economy post 1970's was to get more people working. So you create a scenario where more people can work. The child care subsidy now is the same means to an end. They are lowering the cost of daycare to encourage more people to work so that they can increase GDP. Then they raise taxes on all the new wages. It's basically accelerating the speed of money which is also good for the economy.
Either way, I don't feel bad for my kids having two parents work. I think there needs to be more autonomy between parents and their children anyway. It doesn't mean we spend no time with them, and it becomes the reason that sitting down for dinner together is important.
Nothing in BC is cheap due to the cost to rent a building.
Something something inflation is bad.
Of note, I know a family here that owns several daycare centers (Calgary, Airdrie, Strathmore) and they print money.
Daycare seems like a tough business to run.
For infant, I think you need to have a staff to child ratio of 4:1. Assume $1500 per month per kid, that's only $6000/month income, and you have to cover staff, overhead, rent, insurance, supplies, and food costs.
Right now my toddler's pre-school class has 2-3 staff for 12 kids and we only pay $1200/month full time. That's only $14K/month of income for them assuming all the kids are registered full time. And a bunch of daycares/pre-schools operate from 630am to 6pm...
I personally dont think $1800+ per month day care is unreasonable if it's at locations that have high operating costs like downtown.
If you plan on having two kids and two working parents, sounds like importing a nanny is worth it $2400/month at minimum wage plus the possibility of deducting for providing a living space/food.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Kids looked after, house clean, food cooked. Would rather pay $3k for two kids and all of that vs $1800 each for daycare.
