My guess is when the CRA starts releasing more info on how much CERB/CWEB was fraudulently taken.
He's got time to slide in 2-3 scandals over the next little while, Liberal voters won't remember/care by the time we go to the polls again in 18 months.

Why? Are we still thinking that gov't can make industries?
I think its safe to say that things got out of control with covid. Regardless of your thoughts on how it was handled, the optics of Alberta right now are bad, and the covid outbreak in Alberta tainted CPC potential votes.

Right or wrong, thats the narrative and the viewpoint. Should Kenney have locked things down quicker? Dunno, Monday covid cases are already way down and only yesterday did anything of consequence come into effect.

To bring this back to the federal level, is O'Toole gone? And if so, who replaces him? The liberal lites will scream for a diverse individual and policies even further left, but I don't think there are many true conservatives left in the party.

Meh, every province is going to have a big bump when they loosen restrictions a lot.

As a political layman on the election (not the platforms), here's my take. Feel free to disagree/correct me.

Trudeau got a lot of guff for calling an election in the pandemic, but this seemed like a fairly opportune time to do it and it's more a product of the federal government's ability to call an election rather than have set election terms like the US. As bad as we all want it to be over, the pandemic isn't likely to be over any time in the next 6-10 months. Eventually an election was going to have to be called at some point, right? And despite the image problems of the PM (of which there are many), COVID and the handling of COVID by conservative provincial governments in the west were a major headache for conservatives at the federal level and let every non-conservative to point at Alberta and Saskatchewan and say "If you don't want an entire country to be like AB and SK, don't vote conservative".

    They are? I'm seeing:

954 in hospital (911 from Friday Sept 17)
216 in ICU (215 from Friday)

Maybe stabilizing, but I wouldn't say "way down".

He had until October 2023 if the oppositions would consider supporting them, which they likely would have until we were through the COVID pandemic enough to make it clear they weren't endangering everyone during time of crises (although Trudeau seems to have gotten away with).

But yea, the Conservatives kind of screwed themselves by initially aiming for votes by promising more freedom/openness re:Covid, until the provinces had big infection/hospital waves, so the Conservatives shifted left and the PPC took the "freedom" vote they were initially chasing.

I think they would have picked up a few more seats had they just supported restrictions until 80% vaccination or something and focused on the need to expedite re-opening the economy from the beginning. Sure, they would have lost the PPC vote split but I think it also would have encouraged a lot more NDP voters to vote NDP rather than cast the "ABC" (anything but Conservative) Liberal vote.

O'Toole was doing an alright job of distancing himself from Trumpian politics but didn't quite do enough to convince centrist/leftists not to fear that he was a crazy racist corrupt MCGA type.

I actually think Trump lost O'Toole the election... most people can't separate US and Canadian politics enough to realize that the Conservatives are more left-wing than the US Democrats!

He spent 600 million dollars on an election that accomplished nothing instead of doing his job. For no other reason than vanity and for personal gain.

    Fuck him.

Last line is key here. People truly have no idea.

This is a disingenuous statement perpetuated by the CPC and its supporters and you know it. It's a laughable one too. Example....a lot of Democratic party members and elected officials these days are self proclaimed socialists... where's the equivalent in the CPC? Another example, some members and supporters of the CPC are openly racist. Where's the equivalent in the Democratic party I'm curious to know. Ya I know what the response to this one would be..."well how do you define racism?"... what about abortion rights? Gayrights? Trans rights?
The listgoes on, the CPC is much closer to the Republicans that they would love you to believe. anyways I'm out, nice to visit beyond every one in while and see what you Calgarians are up to.

It's a waste of money but Harper pulled the same stunt in 2008 to get a majority. Horgan as well. It's just taking advantage of weak opposition to grab power.

But of all 3, only Trudope failed mostly he (his people) thought the vaccine glory would last.

Almost has to say don't hate the players, hate the game.

If you are going to play a dumb move like that, you better win. Trudeau didn’t.

Unless it's all in the mail in ballot.... voter turnout also sucked compared to 2019. Only NDP and BQ has the same amount of votes are last time. Lib/Con/Green all see close to 1M less turnout for them. With PPC picking up about 0.5M.

Hell no. Just saying, that the left tends to enjoy better result on higher turnouts.

    IMHO.

Still impressive that Green lost like 70% of the votes and still kept 2 seats.

Usually higher turnout is bad for the incumbent party.
