But I find it hard to believe that the term is would be used to describe someone you were at war with for 12+ years.
Yeah I would not think that to be common...

I've never been so put off by an election as this one. What a fucking waste of our time given the shit that's happening right now. I may just decline my ballot so its just documented as such.

It's totally the wrong time for it but worked for Horgan.

I also don't think the Liberals see a reversal of fortune so quick in just 4 weeks and that's just ignoring all the scandals or nothing new or huge surfaced.

Even worse is that even though most of the Canadian personnel have left, they left some behind to help the other countries that are still there. And they only airlifted about 3,700 people out since the 19th (not all would be Canadians or Afghans coming here), after starting operations late.
It’s 3700 more then I thought trudeau would get out ….

Yeah I think JT has miscalculated it a bit. 338Canada numbers seems to indicate that liberals are bleeding to the CPC (O'toole is trying to move CPC to the middle). JT can still get his majority by scare tactics to convince NDP voters to vote Liberal to block CPC If it hasn't started yet, I expect to see O'toole comparisons to Trump. That's everyone's favourite badguy to compare to when we need to scare people about the dangers of the right.

Right now we have pandemic 4th wave, a province practically on fire, droughts, housing affordability crisis, and a crisis in Afghanistan.

Comparatively, Horgan looks like a genius. He had the benefit of popularity of Bonnie Henry after a summer of very low infections in BC.

I know that the short election call was a strategic move by the Liberals to try and catch the CPC with their pants down and unprepared. But I see this as a major opportunity for CPC if they play their cards right. The average Canadian voter has a memory of about 2 weeks. CPC can drive home everything they want, like continual reminder of all the Liberal scandals for the last decade and voters will still have this fresh in their mind when going to the polls.

They're going to harp on the privatization of healthcare, inability to meet Paris climate targets, and point to Kenney and Ford's handling of COVID and paint the CPC as US Republicans for sure.

The scary part is, as someone who would support a fiscal-minded smaller government (i.e. CPC), I think Kenney has been a disaster in Alberta (though it's arguable if he's any worse than Notley, Redford, Stelmach, etc.) and it makes me worry O'Toole will also fail to deliver on just about everything he says.

I don't know how to break this to you, but there isn't a politician alive in this country who would deliver on anything they say.

Obviously. But what Kenney has attempted to do in Alberta will have longer term consequences than the shit the NPD pulled, so there is an extent to the consequences of "breaking promises".

To be a bit fair, Kenny never had a chance once Covid hit, but that guy has zero concept of the adapt and overcome mentality haha!

I can respect ideologists, and I can respect shrewd, calculating, cynical but effective leaders.

Kenny managed to find a pretty unpalatable middle ground between those. Covid didn't help, but I'd say his biggest problems had nothing to do with that.

Let's keep Kenney and his fuckups to the provincial election thread guys. We're trying to contain this one to all of Justin's fuckups.

fuck. After some Google research, as it turns out there is no counting of rejected ballots at the federal level. I did find instances where people ate their ballots in protest

My choices are not exactly stellar. Like picking your favourite STD:

A candidate who I think is a relatively good candidate (Randall Garrison), in a party I don't really don't like (NDP)
A candidate who is a political newcomer (Harley Gordon) who's introduction plays on race which is a turn off for me ("Born to an immigrant mother and a Black Canadian father") in a single issue party that recently started imploding (Green)
A candidate who appears to have been pulled out of a hat because they didn't have anyone to run (Laura Frost) in a party I'm questioning their ability to hold things together (CPC)
A candidate who makes me think of no win scenarios (Doug Kobayashi) in a party that called this bullshit election (Liberal)
