Default Another SUV thread.....of the 7 passenger variety!

GF wants/needs to replace her vehicle. Current ride is a 2015 GL550 and she is absolutely sick of MB. Had it since new, tired of it being a shop queen especially since warranty stopped paying for it. Too unreliable, too expensive to fix so often.

Is there a current MB offering that isn't going to be a money pit? Although it will be hard to keep her there at this point. The Volvo offering is off the table as her bestie just bought the one she'd have liked so doesn't want to have the same vehicle....

What else is out there? Wide open to options, even domestic (but not the Tahoe/whatever the Cadillac version is).

I don't know anything about the 7 seater world so lets here it.

Since you don’t like the GM… Expedition?

Basically an F150 with more seats. Though I’d still go Tahoe/suburban/Yukon/XL if it was me.

What made the GL such a lemon? Air suspension?

If she doesn’t actually need the sheer size of the GL I like the GLE a lot. Pick your engine size to suit your needs. Still 3 rows, but back row is pretty right.

Or buy an odyssey / sienna lol

Korean would be my pick. Kia Telluride or Hyundai Pallisade, I think are the two. I haven't shopped them super close, as I want out of the "basically a minivan" market, but they have good reviews. I guess maybe the Genesis GV80 too? Don't know anyhting about that one, and I'm low class so I won't even look.

Women logic. I get not wanting to show up at a party wearing the same dress, but can't buy a make/model because her friend has one is ludicrous.

Out of curiosity what were some of the bigger issues? Most should have been on warranty

We currently have a '18 denali and love it. Gas is tough though, premium for the 6.2L and it averages about 16l/100km in the city. Thinking of jumping into the new Denali for the mini duramax.

Expedition, Navigator are sawweeeet, but yeah, a bit much "truck" for most moms. I stand by my Hyundai/Kia suggestion.

I bought my wife a Telluride, she absolutely loves it and we get more people stopping to ask about it than any german we have owned. There isnt anything close in the price category that is even remotely as good. They are at the top of every list but man are they hard to get ahold of vs the american ones your suggesting.

Needs the sheer size of the GL. Any product would have to be essentially the same size as current vehicle so GLE too tight. Would never drive a minivan, god bless her.

Don't think any of the Korean options would be palatable but will send a link or two as who knows?

Nothing about the styling of the Yukon/Denali/Tahoe world speaks to her in any way.

Women logic to a point but her friend even bought it in the only colour she likes on that car so it would literally be identical. I wouldn't do that either.

This weeks bill on the GL is a random coolant leak and a power seat switch that stopped working, 2K later you're back on the road. It's always something "small" and basically nickel/diming to death.

Essentially just need a list of 7 seater options comparable to the GL and then start paring it down.

If she's driving a GL now then the BMW X7 might be the obvious alternative? My wife has her eyes on one for when we have another kid as she was really happy with our X5 (now sold)

Personally I like the GV80, although the 3rd row access + room is just okay.

Telluride/Pallisade are what I would buy if you don't want another big German SUV. They always stand out to me on the road as well, they look way nicer than the price would suggest.

The wide variety of near-identical rebadged American SUVs are the last thing I would be looking at personally.

The X7 is my favorite big SUV if German is still on the table, but it's unlikely to be a significantly different experience than the GL550.

Audi is arguably worse than MB but, back to the wonderful world of warranty I guess so that's a plus. Still don't need quarterly shop visits though, anyone have direct experience here?

    What about the Mazda CX-9?

    Or the new Acura MDX?

We were in the exact same position.

Bought an Atlas - biggest CUV I think we could get our hands on.

VW eh? What made you go that route, size alone? I've always been leery of VW.....

Assume Acura is boring but may not hurt to look at it. Mazda and Nissan are too sketchy haha

I really like the looks of those atlas's. If I wasnt trying to cheap out and buy a 25k Q5 like i did, an Atlas was next up.

Also, looking back, your GLA was way too small for what we needed

Pretty much. Space behind the third row. It's as big as a Tahoe I think, but with the superior interior packaging of a CUV.
