If you don't like this movie due to overanalyzing, you're gayer than the beach scene. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
how can a navy captain afford a P51? Even with no kids.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

You'd be surprised at the money some military guys can bank when their living costs are covered and the tax breaks they can get.

    Here's a P51 for $550k https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search...-type=aircraft

According to google a captain with 10 years service is making roughly 7000USD/month.
Mavericks been a captain 30 some years after the first movie? He squats in some shack he probably won in a game of poker and a replica p-51 kit can be had for 200k. Seems little Hollywood but not outside the realm of reasonable.

The one thing they did get right, either intentional or not, is the depiction of fighter pilot attitudes. "If we're the best, then who's going to train us?" Gold!

watched this today and one of the best action summer movie in a while that I wouldnt have problem re-watching
afterwards we watched the original Top Gun as wife doesnt recall if she ever seen it.

the cinematography on this new one is fantastic with the use wide angle lenses and them actually flying the jets

forgot the IMAX in Landmark Country Hills doesnt have reclining seats and not a big fan of too loud sound so we would have enjoyed this on regular 2D

IMAX country hills almost blew my fucking eardrums out at one movie, and it was just the previews. I went and got my money back. I love loud stuff too.. it was insane

Pretty sure imax country hills isn't real imax anyways. No point going there. You have to go to Chinook. That one still has terrible seats too. I read somewhere imax won't let them upgrade.

I am kinda going against the rest of the thread here, BUT...

The plot is horrible and dumb. You can see every plot twist from 10 miles off, and is just a complete rehash of the original. This one kinda felt like Star Wars and the death star. Fly down a trench (canyon) and shoot bombs down the ventilation shaft.

Having said that, the cinematics are amazing. Visually, the movie is a 10/10 and worth seeing the movie for that alone.
Yeah this is not a very good movie at its core. However the nostalgia factor, heavy dose of wink wink cheese, and visuals bump it up from a 5/10 to an 8/10 theater experience for me. My 14 year old really liked it as did my wife so no complaints from me.

Considering all the aerial scenes weren't CGI, that's damn impressive

Most..... are not CGI. There is no way they can find a Su-57 for the shots for real.

I bet 90% of all serial shots in 3rd act is all CGI.

The “5th gen fighters” are digital reskins of f18s. They didn’t cgi in planes, all practical with just reskin.

Edit - same with that experimental plane at the start. The non flying one in the hanger was a real mock-up tho.

If you're giving it an 8/10 then it's a good movie at its core by definition.

I have nothing bad to say about that movie.

You would have to have a very stiff rod up your rear to say it was anything but a good movie.

The cult-like following of this movie is pretty entertaining. Ignorant people who don't understand anything related to the content think its shit don't stink.

I must be ignorant. Not sure what more you are looking for other than a feel good movie, with great visual shots, some comic relief (albeit I contend that it is actually a sad movie), some drama and action. I think you missed the premise of "If you think, you're dead."

The whole thing is banking on the nostalgia from 30 years ago and it does a good job. What were you looking for?

We all knew how the story was going to go. I'm just wondering when Tom is going to hang up the gloves like Stallone did and we will see a sequel like Creed.
