Default Most Cost Effective Option to Get a Custom Email?

I've recently purchased a domain and I want to set up two email addresses using that domain. Whats the most cost effective option to do that?

Seems like I can do it with Google Workspace for ~$8/month/user but it comes with a bunch of access to stuff I would never use. I have a Microsoft 365 personal subscription and run all my documents and calendars through office so the extras google offers for what would be $192/yr would go unused. I could switch from the personal 365 to business because that gives you a custom email option but then it looks like I'd be spending $16/month/user for the subscription ($384/yr) versus $80/year that I spend now for personal.

Currently I have a 'CustomName'@gmail.com but would rather it be 'schurchill39'@CustomName.com

I feel like I'm either over thinking this or just not tech savy enough to not get hoodwinked.

I would go the Office 365 route. You'll be showering in gold once the biz takes off and that money will be what you're tipping waitresses at Smitty's.

usually whoever you bought the domain from, like GoDaddy, gives you email accounts for that domain at no charge...

I did it all through google. I liked that solution. I hosted my domain at site ground, and those dudes were basically my IT department, so helpful.

From what I can tell GoDaddy just offers email forwarding as part of the domain purchase, so outgoing emails would still come from @gmail.com. But it looks like they do full custom emails for $8/month/user (1st year is half price though). Their domain purchase is $26/yr versus google at $17/yr.

I suppose this could also just be me being cheap and thinking $8/month/email address is expensive. That's a very real possibility.

Isn’t gsuites with a custom domain literally exactly what you want?

I went G Suite w/ Google Domains. I'll never pay GoDaddy a cent.

Godaddy is very expensive these days. Not worth the cost at all.

Not quite. All I want is the email, I don't want all of the other G-Suite (now Google Workspace) addons for $8/mth/user. I was just trying to see if there was a cheaper/bare bones option that only had the custom email.

This is basically what I was looking for. I didn't buy my domain through go daddy but it looks anything that has email forwarding might be able to make it work. Thanks!

Not sure that helps at all. You still need a mail server, which is the thing you’re trying to get.

If gmail allows me to send and receive as that custom alias then I'm good with that.

Google is reliable as fk, and I recommend it to everyone. $8 isnt expensive.

For the real low budget people, I recommend https://mxroute.com/
