Default Suggest A Projector And Screen

I bought a new house (thanks, Jordan) and need suggestions on a projector and screen so I can ignore them and buy something else. Just kidding, I need your help.

My problem is the basement is not exactly projector friendly with a weird shape and lots of windows, I'm hoping you can suggest both a projector and a screen for me which will work.

My main requests are as follows:
    • used almost daily
    • half used for gaming (Switch / Wii / NES with HDMI / Atari with HDMI)
    • half used for video entertainment (Netflix / Kodi / antenna streaming)
    • I absolutely do not play the latest / greatest video games
    • used during the day as well as at night
    • I think I'd like a screen that blocks ambient light
    • I think I'd like a motorized screen (fixed may work too but limited wall space)
    • I think I'd like a tensioned screen
    • I think I'd like a screen with 4K specific material
    • 4K capable projector
    • I'd like a fairly quiet projector
    • screen budget is $500 - $1000
    • projector budget is $1000 - $1600
    • I'm not really that picky about quality but I'd like the best quality I can afford
    • I'll get audio later when I can afford it

I'll attach a crude drawing of my basement. Please ignore the measurements on it, some of them are correct but most are wrong. Just use the drawing as a reference shape for my explanation. Here are the actual measurements of my basement:
    • living space width is 12 feet, 10 inches (stairs to opposite wall)
    • living space length is 27 feet
    • bathroom blank wall space is 8 feet, 3 inches wide from wall to doorway (not 2.31 metres)
    • ceilings (I think) are 9 feet high
    • basement is fully finished except the furnace room which is just studs
    • 2 windows are large (4x5 maybe)
    • 2 windows are 1x2 I think
    • None of the other walls are large enough to use even if it looks like they may be in this drawing. They either have windows or a bar in front of them.
    • I think we'll end up facing the bathroom and putting the screen either on that wall or as a motorized drop down in front of it (partially blocking the bathroom door). This width, including the door, is 10 feet, 1 inch wide. The wall beside the bathroom door is 8 feet, 3 inches wide.

Get the biggest flat panel TV of your desired quality and skip the projector.

Yeah, get a real TV, they make them big now, and they are better than nearly any projector in your price range.

i have a nice motorized screen if you end up going projector. Moved offices and don't need it anymore, just using the wall. PM me for more info.

This is like putting a projector in a solarium.
Plus - what if it backup batteries freeze in the basement?

I was going to say wait for mitsu’s advice before making a decision, but then I saw the budget. $2500 won’t get you a good projector setup. Maybe 1080p but why do that in 2021.

Get the best tv you can buy for 2500 and be done with it.

Sounds like it is a walk out property? If so, forget about the projector and go with the biggest TV in your budget. With the light of a walkout basement, projectors are only a good idea if you get a really high end up but even then they aren't ideal unless the basement can be blacked out with blinds etc.

I'm pretty set on a projector, even if I just use it at night. I'll have to reevaluate once I get possession.

I wouldn’t even know where to put a TV. Hang it beside bathroom door would make using bathroom awkward as fuck. Everywhere else there’s windows.

Rip out the bar? That’s too extreme. Get blackout blinds everywhere and have a motorized projector screen come down on the wall where the walkout door is? That’s really the only choice.

Got a pic of that wall?

It's not impossible if you up the budget.

    Plus whatever windows blackout cost.

But whatever you spend won't be as good as a $4000 TV. Other than having 100"+ of screen vs ~80"

The way I see your diagram, realistically the only places to put it would be on the bathroom wall, or the wall perpendicular from the bar. Although it doesn't really look like it from the pictures, you could probably do a 113" screen, but what you are forgetting is sound. You will need to probably do behind the screen speaker setups to make the most of the space and go in the roof for the rears. Also given that you have that many windows, I just don't think you will get the result you want (even for just nighttime viewing)

Bathroom wall is only 2.3m You need min 2.5m to do 100".

And I'm assuming he's starting at 100", otherwise this would be a pointless exercise.

EDIT: NVM, apparently that diagram is wrong.

Followed by wiping your hands on the screen.
