Vehicles for me are a pretty disposable thing… so if I was going to hold something forever it would need to be something that I can appreciate a very high level of craftsmanship on vs all out performance… with the world going towards automatous driving, it would need to be a full mechanical driving experience too… which really only leaves one car… a Singer built 911
Not just one; Gunther Werks should be part of this discussion. It would be a very tough choice between this and a Singer DLS that you posted, IMO.

Eh… I think what does it for me is that Singer has this style of more or less improving in design and materials the original cars’ in a way that doesn’t “resto-mod” the car into something it wasn’t supposed to be. That Gunther has this euro-foose thing going on that’s just not my thing

Singer does do that, it's their bread and butter... You posted a pic of the DLS though, which is basically the same thing as what Gunther does (albeit with slightly more subdued styling).

Wife and I have chatted about getting rid of one of our people carriers in a few years and picking a nice little coupe. Jag F Type or a Vantage S fit the bill nicely...so probably that.

Yeah, was spending too much time looking for what I actually wanted… found this that highlights all areas of the car… good enough!

But this is what does it for me:

Great cars if you intend to tootle around on a Sunday but horribly equipped for any kind of serious auto x or track use. C7 Z51 and higher seem better equipped. I had cooling system problems even with a double capacity rad and new waterpump, C5Z doesn’t have an engine oil cooler so I went through two different setups to keep oil temps even remotely in check for 3-5 hot laps, power steering is overdriven and overheats with large tires, diff and trans both overheat on track (I had a complete diff failure). OEM brakes are joke even with good track pads and cooling ducts, I was getting two days out of a set of brake pads at Castrol. C6Z oem brakes are also useless for lapping. The oem seats are useless but less of an issue. C5s can have issues with front control arm bolts stripping the threads out of the frame if you are changing your camber a lot. C6Z has an oil cooler (useless) and all the same cooling issues as the C5Z from everything I see online.

If we are talking dream cars.... Then I'm a big fan of the RUF Turbo Florio (RWD, Turbo motor, Targa)- the car that Porsche should have made

That’s a very different level of g class than I dream about.

Seriously though. Owning a plane seems like a bad time, right up there with owning a vacation property.

    Rent. Don’t own.

1965-67 Pontiac GTO was kind of my dream car, when I was a kid but doesn't quite fit the midlife crisis part.

That said, taking care of the powertrain this winter with a substantial power upgrade and continuing to upgrade the rest of the car will give me the protouring type car I've always wanted

89coupe, can you get the vanity plate "NO POP" when you upgrade to your next car?

Haha, doubtful. But, I’ll give you some advice, staying healthy when you are young will definitely reward you 10 fold in your latter years.

Your parents didn't let you drink pop either then, eh? How far back does the chain go?

How about another vanity plate suggestion: "95Lunch" ?
