Many people change the language to Japanese (because they have difficulty listening to paimon in english) and then Chinese when you hit Liyue.

If you just want the story, F2P is completely viable. The game and the story are arguably what some play for. The Spiral Abyss is a tiny part of the game, where you will probably need to spend money on the monthly pass or welkin moon to have a chance of clearing the highest level.
I don't even bother with the Spiral Abyss.

I think I put about an hour on it when I first got my RTX 3060Ti then I got bored lol. but I rarely have time for games now a days.
