You can already see the vacuum Russia left behind. CSTO is dead as Russia can't even deal with Ukraine. Azerbaijan is going after Armenia again. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has flared up again. This seriously put part of BRI in jeopardy. In case you wonder, 1/2 the BRI land route to Europe is thru these warring regions and the other 1/2 is thru Russia.
If US doesn't give a shit and let Iran vs Saudi Arabia go at each other and China/India will be out of oil as most of Russian oil will be offline after this winter when glut and pipe freezes.
China doesn't have the navy to be world police. And locking down South China Sea doesn't buy them anything as 85% of their oil comes from the Saudi. When it get desperate, all oil tankers can be intercepted by Indian navy by Indian ocean. That's why China is so interested in Sri Lanka and Pakistan bases to keep the Indians in check.

There is already sign of disobedience from regional governments. If they don't have $ to shut them up, watch out. The war Xi looking for could be a civil one.
As for Taiwan itself, other than a cheap vacation island, it has very little value. It's only worth it to China as that's the last piece of puzzle to avoid any shipping blockades and turn around cutting off Japan and Korea.
End of the day, the only way out for China is convincing people to trade yuan for the resources they highly needed for 1.3B people.
