i disagree, at some point you just need to go for it. The goal is to win the cup when you have a chance (which they did), not asset manage. LA Rams mortgaged the farm for their superbowl, same with the raptors. When you have a chance you go for it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I still think it was flames mgmt and or ownership never fully believing in Johnny …. Until he got 115pts lol

"Going for it" doesn't mean bad asset management. It means accumulating assets, and then spending them wisely when the time is right. Tre neither accumulated asset value, nor did he spend wisely and he did so when the time was not right. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But hey maybe he still comes back lol checks his dms, goes on some dates and then returns!

Everyone knew he wanted Philly or Jersey.
Reach out to both teams and trade his rights for the highest package.
Anyone else have a feeling he's being lowballed in Philly and NJ?
Also I understand the asset management argument, but Gudreau has a no trade clause. Even if they got offered a steal of a deal, if he doesn't like the destination he just says no. Iginla trade destinations for example.
Only difference between NTC and NMC is waiver and minor league. Isn't it?

Something > nothing
There were one of the top teams in the league last regular season. The time was right. Especially considering the cap hell they were going to be in for this upcoming season. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Sure, you could do that, but it's terrible asset management, because you would get almost nothing good in return. You lose all leverage the moment that NTC hits. You lost the remainder of your leverage the moment the 2022 draft happens. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I would say Flames lost all leverage as soon as he cleared 100 pts.
If they signed him summer 2021 to 8 year 9 mil. Fans would have Jan 6th Tre's house.
And why would that team do that knowing he isn't going to sign in Calgary anyway? Why not wait until he's available and not give up anything? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Two teams are competing on the open market for him. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
By acquiring his rights via trade PRIOR to free agency, ONE team has a window to try and likely sign him.
If that costs them a 3rd round pick they likely don't care.
Teams trade for exclusive negotiating rights all the time.
This is a very very simple concept.
SOMETHING > nothing
If the potential return is something like a 3rd rounder then you roll the dice on being able to keep him.... especially if the player/agent are stringing you along as being interested. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Oh man....
Columbus just offered Johnny $12m X 7 years. Fuck me, if he signs that he was never staying here.
I didn't say it had zero value, but that this approach is not good asset management. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's the same 84 mil with WAY lower tax... JesusThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's an insane offer for Gaudreau! Columbus doesn't look like they'll be winning anytime soon, so this signing will actually set the team back. Definitely a head-scratcher.
Also, Johnny is scared of that cannon. LOL
sounds like Columbus is signing Jonny. Guess it's not about going home as I pointed out.
Wow this is shocking. Under 10mill a year and ashit place to play/live. But it is out east. Which is closer to home.
