Let's make Killramos happy with a playoff performer signing
    Kadri.

44 playoff pts in 52 playoff games.

This one stings. So pissed that Johnny strung them along until the 11th hour. F that guy.
As for tanking... gonna be hard to out-suck Chicago and Arizona at this point with so little time before the 2023 draft.

Looks like Gudbranson and Zadorov will sign elsewhere. So far we have picked up the following players in free agency.

    Gud got 4y x $4m/yr from Columbus.

    Gilbert, Meloche and Rooney.

He had a NTC. Plus we had a stellar regular season, imagine the backlash trading him (if even possible that he waived NTC) at the trade deadline before the playoffs. That’s your answer.

What should’ve been done was lock him down to an extension last year. I’m not sure why that wasn’t done.
guess they know how to deal with an asshole player next time that won't re sign. When your star player walks I'm sure it has many others wondering why.

The wife and the family are the worst excuse out there.

That’s the disappointing thing…totally selfish decision. Sure, family may be the reason and he will likely leave money on the table but if he really cared about the Flames organization and had a feeling he was leaning that way, the stand up thing would have been to discuss what he wanted in advance to allow an opportunity for the Flames to work a trade deal he was happy with and get some assets in return. Even if it didn’t pan out, at least the opportunity would have been available.

As a professional hockey player, is family/home really that big of a deal during the season? I imagine pretty much all of your time is traveling, training/practice and playing.

it's an out or excuse to ignore why the player and the team couldn't come to terms on re signing or trading. No one in their right mind wants a massive assett to walk for free but apparently we can ignore this because its a "family" decision.

I'm an oilers fan but if McDavid or draisaitl did that to the team I'd lose it... some of you are way too kind to being screwed over this badly.

I'm pretty sure he left for family reasons, as he left a bunch of money on the table.

What is retarded is the Flames not being ruthless and maximizing the asset value. Instead, they left all of the decisions in the player's hands. Tre should get fired for being such a naiive cuck.

It happens. Who else have left recently and the team got nothing? The Isles and JT right. The Isles ended up just fine lol maybe the Flames will too!

That could've worked. A sign and trade at 10.5/8yr would have been appealing to any team currently in the market for him. Prob mil/yr discount than what he will try to sign at for 7 years.

To be fair, It is the norm in the business and UFA condition. Tempa and NYI gambled the same thing with Stamko and Tavares. One re-signed, one walked. In no way Flames were gonna trade Johnny last season, so you take your risk and hope he re-signs.

"Hope" is never a good strategy.

    This.

Once emotion clouds business decisions you are likely going to make a bad decision.

I dont understand the alternative? trade Johnny last year? the year before when you dont know if he'll resign? You cant be just chasing future assets forever. It was a year that they could go for it.

Yes, you set the deadline for two times possibly. Last year before the NTC goes into effect for a long term extension OR you set it for the week before the draft.

The first deadline determines if the player wants to commit. The second deadline allows you to trade Chucky for a very high pick.

What they did was give up a ton of asset value for a good regular season. That's just bad asset management no matter which way you cut it.

Okay lol when should they have traded Johnny then? The 99pt season? Or the two down years right after? Or last year during his 115pt season

No they should have traded him shortly after the end of this season after they tabled an offer of $9.5mil/ 8 years and it was immediately turned down.

They weren't able to trade him during the season, his NTC kicked in last July. So you give him a deadline coinciding with his NTC in July 2021 to either commit long term or get traded. Simple as that.
