Wow what a trade. Tree did the unthinkable imo. If neither resigns, trade them at the deadline for at least 1 1st round pick EACH. so now you basically got 3 1st and a prospect for chucky at the min. and then a a huge cap space after next season with Lucic and monahan off the books as well.

Nice work by Treliving. It hurts a GMs leverage when it becomes public a player wants out... I think he got a good return.

    Man. What a whirlwind offseason.

Borderline best possible outcome for the situation, get both or at least one to re-sign with us and huge win especially if it's Huberdeau. Treliving can keep his job.

This is honestly high way robbery. Glad Treliving did the robbing. Still have cap space to improve the roster.

I still can't get my head around how he pulled this off. Was there some sort of bidding war for Chucky?

So the important players are still in expiring deals, right? Aside from one season, I'm not sure what we got.

There was only 3 teams actually in on Tkachuk; Blues, Canes, Panthers

From a theathletic article with tkachuk:

The Blues offered Tarasenko, Scandella and a high draft pick (at least)

The Canes offer started with Necas

And obviously Treliving went with the panthers as they've been going all in on a cup, still need to ideally sign some of the guys who came over but even if they get flipped now or at the deadline, still a great deal for the Flames.

Wasn't much else coming in by the sounds of it, anything else would be wayyyyyyyy worse than what the flames got

As a flames fan I live it 1 year at a time. For this year i am OK with this roster but ofc ship the ufa off at the deadline even if we are in 1st place lol cuz we can’t lose them for nothing!

As a falmes fan, I totally understand and I hate that I do. I'm all-in for this one year, but always want them to trade all expiring contracts.

As if they'd say anything else. Them saying that makes zero difference to the truth, which is unknown.

Sign both of the incoming players to long term extensions BEFORE the season starts, or ship them to the highest bidder with a bunch of their salary retained if needed. Do not wait for the deadline or next year.

    THIS.

If Tre can pull this off trade for Chucky, he can prob pull off something similar for Huberdeau before the season ideally.

The Flames current best asset is cap space. If they can rent one or both of these players to any other team by retaining salary and getting them to fit in under a tight cap for the destination team, they could get a fortune in futures.

I fully agree with this. You have to wonder why FLA traded Huberdeau. Is it because he is not going to Re-sign?
Maybe he wants to go home to play ?

They felt that 8 years of control of MT was worth more than 9 years of control of Huberdeau primarily due to the age difference I would guess.
