At least we’ll get definitive proof of Gaudreau’s ability and skill when we suck shit next season. Killjohnny got his wish.

If the Flames start the season with any of the following on the roster they are more of an epic failure than they are today
Lindholm
Markstrom
Backlund
Anderson
Tkachuk
Markstrom
Tanev
Hanifin
GONE!! TANK and rebuild, collect all the 2023 first rounders
Totally true. We'll get proof of his worth on the open market, which I think we once argued about.
Whatev, I'd like them to be good if I ever get a downtown job again, which may never happen.
Downtown is overrated.
Aside from lunch options

Who would offer him more money than Calgary and why?!?
A non-playoff team like Philly, Jersey or Islanders who think a dainty, Lady Bing winner is what's been missing from their success?... They might, but it seems like a poor move. He is in the best city for him to win with the best surrounding cast.
Unless he's looking for more sun or to be back where his family is, Calgary is the only team that makes sense.
QUOTE me. >80 pts next season. Regardless of team he goes to.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
*edit. Has to play 80 games.

That's hardly a bold prediction at 30% less than this year's points. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
He will be hot garbage on a team where he's the only good player and he will be on fire with a contender.
*Also shouldn't be considered a bold prediction...
He’s looking to be closer to family. It wasn’t about money. Fact that his wife didn’t move here and came to visit only for a week was writing on the wall. She’s a Philly native and she’s staying there. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
One has to wonder if Johnny fucked us by telling us now, or if he already told the team he’s not staying and the team spent a month trying to convince him. In any case, walking for nothing sucks. Would’ve been nice to get something out of it with a sign and trade deal to give his new team some cap relief for some assets back.
At this point I don’t want Tkachuk to stay. I’ve been critical of his play quite a bit this year and feel he’s elevated by his teammates. With Johnny gone he’s gonna regress hard.

Rumour is the flames were "extremely close" today to the point the flames management thought it was a done deal.
Johnny pulled the plug at the last minute.
Rewatch the last goal that the oilers scored and tell me Johnny deserves a Makar or Mackinnon level contract
Sign and trade deals do not exist. They are pure fantasy like the Oilers defense.

I wasn't aware Mackinnon is available on the UFA market this year.
I've heard this, as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But it's a strange attitude for a North American player to take. Who wants to take a pay cut to go from a division winner to a shit team with a potentially nightmare coach in the prime of your prime of your career??!?
A snowblower, perhaps.
hahaha. Imagine leaving a decent team for another team that doesn't make the playoffs.... how much must one hate Calgary to bolt like that?
Is there any bigger way to say FU to your team then by pretending you'll stay only to gtfo out of town?
Spoiler: He’s gonna sign tomorrow for less then the flames were offering. Rumored to be ~$10.5m X 8 years from the flames. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My bet is he signs with the Devils, more promising than the tire fire that is Philly.
His wife is pregnant and a nurse in Philly, she barely came to visit him up here, he wasn't signing here. It'll be for less money elsewhere.
Cross Malkin off the potential Flames list.
Also wondering what the taxation differences are for a player on a Canadian team vs USA. Bet that has an impact.
Guess it also depends on citizenship too.
Kadri might show up here.
Kadri would be a terrible signing.
if the wife was an issue why didn't the flames trade him? How does one justify losing him for nothing?
