Gee I did quite well in the large corporate world. Got promoted so much that older people that were there longer started to resent me.

Boomer chimes in with boomer take. A+, would listen to wise old man who worked through one of the greatest economic expansions in Alberta's history.

    I'm a boomer!

No sonny, I started my career when oil was $11/bbl.

I have also never, ever had a job in O&G, since no one, and I mean no one, in the industry has ever wanted to hire me.

Dad was laid off in 1991, I had to pay for schooling myself.

    That's the dream!
I look at a lot of the 65-70 yr olds at my company who are excited to get back to socializing daily in the office until 3:30pm.
Coast away and take up room from a high performing person who wants to work.

Do you know how much tuition is now vs then on an inflation adjusted basis?

    Or typical living expenses?

I've paid for all my schooling, I remember when engineering tuition doubled in one year (from $5k to $10k). I believe it is now closing in on $15k.

And the fact that you did not work in O&G has no bearing whatsoever on your position being tied to it. The O&G continuous boom for over 2 decades lifted salaries. If you are such a rockstar, you likely wouldn't be here in Alberta still if big corp has been so lucrative for you.

Lets be real, I'm just jealous you got to live through and capitalize on one of the greatest economic expansions in human history. But to act like a rapidly expanding economy doesn't have a lot to do with most people's success is disingenuous.

My tuition went from $788.25 per semester to about $3k. I mean i guess not as horrible but my jobs paid $5.50/hr, presuming I could find a job in an environment where Buger King wanted you to have experience.

Why am I still here? Well the COL here is still really cheap, I run a business that I’m hoping to sell soon for a few million dollars, and my oldest goes to a special school for annoyingly smrt kids.

I always attribute any success I have to 90% luck and 10% blowjob skills.

    But hey let's do this.

When I was younger, interest rates were about 10-11%, my student loan was at 13% until I refied it at a much more reasonable 11.5%. My first car loan was 11.5%.

I lived on my own as my parents moved to Toronto for better opportunities. My parents stopped sending me money after my first year of schooling. I had no car.

My 1 bedroom apt was $500-$550. I tried to live in shared residences when I could as that was significantly cheaper - $200-$300/mth. CAD$ was around 60 cents USD$, so imported goods were very expensive. I couldn't afford a computer as they were about $2500 at the time.

So yeah, what are you whining about again?

You're just one of those outliers the old folks talk about, "those youngins are lazy nowadays, no drive. But schurchhill? He'll suck 10 dicks in 30 minutes, a real go getter"

Doctors will soon be leaving Quebec because of language laws too. It's a win-win for everyone.
This is actually not far from home.

I make more than HK's public hospital doctors (non senior) and this includes dirty teams (covid wards). There are doctors here quitting to pursue other fields that are reasonably paid with less stress and workload.

Fucking no one had it as easy as the boomers.

I hire lots of young people, we have a student right now in fact. He's awesome.

If anything they're easier to control as years of accepting liberal rule have made them susceptible to any suggestions.

    You're doing god's work.

And you're right, the Boomers will be viewed as a toxic generation when the history books are written.
