    Default Official 2021/22 NHL Thread

Boom. Official first games of the season were yesterday with Seattle losing and T-Bay getting stuffed by Pittsburgh sans Crosby.
I don't care for the camera angle that was overused in the Vegas-Seattle game.

I don't believe much of what Bettman days and I don't believe this, for a second:

as far as unvaccinated players, I think he means players currently on rosters. There's some players who are in limbo and not yet on a roster because of vaccination status.

Could be? The one that comes to mind is Lake Tahoe.

My two minutes of googling confirms my thought that Melbourne gets alot colder during their winter than Tampa does.

What's wrong with that? I was in San Diego one year in Dec, they had an outdoor ice rink. It was 23C outside.

LoL! You mean the one outside the Hotel Del Coronado?
I think the standards are higher to put tens of millions of dollars worth of pro athletes on.
Lake Tahoe last year was an unmitigated disaster.

    *Thanks @cyra1ax for that correction.

The actual quality of the product doesn't matter.

The ones in Calgary sucked too because it was too cold, doesn't matter.

    It's just the atmosphere.

    Right, makes sense.
I recall then stopping that game for several hours and having the players come back at midnight to finish it, just like Lake Tahoe.
    Same.

It's a gimmick. Don't expect anything approaching a real game. I'm surprised you are.

TIL that if (all other things being equal) Vegas won that game in Lake Tahoe, they would not have won the President's Trophy and secured home ice throughout the playoffs.
Because, it wasn't a real game.

They could have won any game they lost.

    But that's beside the point.

I am not saying that what they are doing is a good idea. I am simply saying that it is possible. So of course they will do it. For the NHL it is a money maker and has some good long term benefits. The teams playing lose out on a fair match. The NHL as a whole benefits.
