I am lost as to why live rounds are ever used?
You'd think they're setup a prop gun to not accept a live round.
But I'm ignorant and also unwilling to read all the previous banter and news stories.
Authenticity and cost. I'm sure everything can be done in post these days.

I'm also at a lost at the terms, apparently a blank is also a live round? And firing blanks may still have some projectiles, especially if barrel is not proven cleared?

Good generic example for people who don’t know.

Great diagram. If a single grain of corundum sand falls into the chamber, it can definitely be deadly at distance too.

There was the one time where an actor pulled a blank next to his head and died from the ejected gases fracturing his skull.

Both blanks and regular rounds may be referred to as "live rounds", because they both contain powder loads. I'd say the union probably doesn't have any better information on hand than anyone else. There's a lot of confusing terminology being slung about.

The media in general is dumb AF so we're never to find out the real truth anyhow.

I thought they just contained a very loud speaker in them to produce the BANG sound.

Sincs they were playing cowboy with revolvers, could have also been wadcutters, which are very much live and deadly rounds but have a solid lead slug seated flush with the brass instead of a protruding bullet.

I was very careful with my use of the word generic. Lots of ways a round can be loaded.

Was just trying to illustrate how blanks are still full of propellant more than anything.

I read some of the film crew were using these firearms for target practice (fun) so it's possible real ammunition was used. Doesn't seem like it's just some freak accident with previous complaints on work environment and safety. Someone will be found responsible and made an example of so others would smarten up it's dead serious to have real firearms for movie productions.

I'm sure the 800 lawyers that rushed to the scene will have it figured out soon enough.

    https://www.thewrap.com/rust-armorer...las-cage-film/

Stu Brumbaugh, who served as key grip on the Cage Western “The Old Way” this summer, told TheWrap that Gutierrez upset both Cage and other crew members on the Montana production by failing to follow basic gun safety protocols like announcing the arrival and usage of weapons onto the set.

Hate to say it as I start to deal with Gen Z in the work force, quite a few don't take the jobs seriously.

So it was indeed an actual lead bullet in the gun rather than an accidental obstruction like Brandon Lee. That's a yuuuuuuge fuckup by the armorer, how did an honest-to-god bullet wind up on set, in the gun? The mind boggles.

The qualification to be an armorer clearly needs to be higher. Brutal.

Red some of the details last night. Tons of real bullets on set, that gun and others were used for target practice shooting cans by the crew to pass time. I know nothing about gun safety or rules, but that surely doesn’t sound safe to me.

As for the actual shooting, it was rehearsals and Baldwin was practicing taking the gun out of the holster and pointing it at the cameras when it misfired.

In Vancouver, (many years ago) the rules were rightfully strict and fully adhered to.
RCMP officers, real ones, were unlocking the storage boxes for the scene and the scene only, inspecting the firearms and returning them immediately after the scene.

Rigorous? Yes. But we can easily see what happens when you assume others will use their common sense.
