Downgraded sentence. White male celebrity, only slightly less influential than white male sports celeb. Maybe its time to say that justice isn't really a thing in the USA depending on what you are born as?

"If convicted, along with a prison sentence, Mr Baldwin and Ms Gutierrez-Reed could face a fine of $5,000"

Move along, nothing to see here.

Baldwin's legal team argues that Reeb, a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, should be barred from the prosecutor's table because the state constitution says a "sitting member of the Legislature may not 'exercise any powers properly belonging' to either the executive or judicial branch," according to a filing with the First Judicial District Court of New Mexico.
Those defense lawyers earned their keep.

He should sue the Prosecutor's Office for being put through this while suffering from the anguish of the incident. It's fuckin ridiculous.

I'm thinking the armourer may have been hoping for some sort of "shared responsibility". But now, its just them left holding the bag. She's gonna get the book thrown at her, as she should.

I think it's been said in this thread:

Alec Baldwin the actor pulling the trigger = Not Guilty of murder/manslaughter (Stupid AF)
Alec Baldwin the exec producer who hired the producer who hired the armourer = I think he's far enough removed to have charges dropped. Should he as Exec Producer have had a gun safety course for all on set? YES. Should that be mandatory? YES.

I dunno what Americans have against gun training courses. It's like education of any kind for them is an issue.

I enjoyed the part where the defences "expert" witness offhandedly pointed the gun at the judge immediately after she asked him to confirm to the court that it wasn't loaded.

That happened in the Rittenhouse trial too - the prosecutor swept...everyone, multiple times. He flagged the jury, the judge, half the crowd in the courtroom, all with his finger on the trigger as well. Yes, obviously it was unloaded, but that isn't the point, as the first words out of everyone's mouth after they have a negligent discharge is "Oh em gee, I thought it was unloaded". Of the 4 rules of firearms safety/security, controlling your muzzle direction is by far and away the most critical. It astonishes me (well, not anymore really as it is still so commonplace), constantly, even how many so called experts or pros break this rule. It does take training and experience to move around dynamically with a firearm and not flag those you don't want to fly bullets into, but there is NO excuse in an environment like a courtroom for doing it.

I'd half-expect you to be shot in a courtroom for doing that. Insanity.

You have way too much faith in the conciousness of the courtroom security than I do

Yeah you see that guy jump the judge in that video a couple months back? Had like a full 30 seconds of wailing on her before they pulled him off, knife or other stabby tool she'd be dead.

She has also complained about how the shooting has negatively affected her life and modeling career, “while never expressing genuine remorse at any time,” the filing states.

    ...

The filing also notes that Gutierrez-Reed has another felony charge pending for allegedly hiding a firearm from security at a New Mexico bar and sneaking it into the venue. The filing says, “Upon successfully circumventing the security at the bar she went into the restroom and made a selfie video stating ‘They checked my purse but they didn’t cheek my butt cheeks! Wah, wah, wah.’”
    Wut.
