    Default tire storage rack

    https://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=217

anyone know where locally I can get something similar to above? 4 tires storage rack are fine but 8 would be ideal. Don't really care for the side shelves.

This style is best and can be made from simple wood and braided steel cable, with a pool noodle for protection.

Lee Valley sells the best wall mounted racks.... its the one Canadian Tire knocked off.

However I think the OP is looking for a rolling rack? Princess Auto sells them from time to time, thats the only other Canadian one I could find easily.

I bought the Canadian tire ones. Which very inconveniently had its mounting holes spaces 1 short of normal stud spacing ( despite claiming otherwise in the instructions ). So I had to add a stud into the wall to mount it.

    D- would not recommend.

I got a pair of similar wall mounted racks from Tirerack and Princess Auto, where the rack mounts to a rail which in turn is bolted to your wall studs. All I had to do in that case was drill new holes in the rail to match my stud spacing.

Mine did not come with any such rail. Just a couple mounting flanges where you drove lag bolts into the studs.

I know. That's why I never bought the Canadian Tire ones. My house has unusual stud spacing so I had very specific needs when I got the racks I did.

One additional bonus is the racks I have are adjustable, width-wise.

Width-adjustable racks are a good thing. Also worth noting that if you have pickup truck tires, or any larger diameter tires, you need something that sticks out from the wall a lot further. My Towing tires are 32.6" Diameter and barely fit on my rack. They have to go between the studs so they can rock back a little.

Step1: Get steel angle from Federal Metals. They stock 20' lengths.
Step2: Divide your steel up, basic marth helps here.
Step3: Weld the inside corners, TIG pro or MIG noob nobody will ever see these anyway.
Step4: Get some cheap caster wheels (PA) weld/bolt em on.
    Step5: Spray paint.

I think I spent less than $40 altogether.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

I pulled my tires off of the wall, and put them on dollies stacked vertically.

Are these racks purely to keep the tires out of the way or is stacking them 4 high in a corner bad for them in the long run? I bag and stack all 8 of ours (2 stacks of 4) and built a table top out of plywood to set overtop for extra counter space.

For me it was mainly to keep them out of the way and not taking up floor real estate in my garage. But I'd heard over the years anecdotally that stacking tires flat long term puts extra pressure on the bead. How bad a thing that is, don't know..

Thats exactly why the Lee Valley one is primo. The rods are adjustable length so you can make them however long or short you want. I have 2 at 4' long and 1 at 3' long (for the savage Fit tires).
