    Default Catalytic Converter Protection

So someone jacked my cat yesterday morning. I have a dash cam, but the 'bump' detection didn't go off for it to record anything. Nothing really from my doorbell cam other than the sound of the sawzall or whatever they used. Insurance is covering it and it's getting fixed as we speak, but the car will again, be sitting outside with no protection. I will be installing cameras near my driveway, but that may not deter some thieves.

Can anyone recommend a place in town or a solution that can cage it up or protect it?

I did find a a CatClamp tool that you can purchase and install, but I want to know if there are other cost effective solutions to prevent this from happening again.

I recommend a booby trap. Something flamethrower style.

    That’ll learn ‘em

Is it a car that needs to be jacked up to get at the cat's?

Is your garage full of a bunch of junk that is worth less than your cat or car?

That seems to be the standard suburban (mis)-calculation.

Cheaper option to install cameras, install a bright motion spotlight and set those instant notifcations

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

My neighbor had their cat stolen out of their Hyundai SUV. My ring doorbell camera caught it but couldn't see their plate number. From parking their car to loading up the stolen cat from the Hyundai in their trunk was literally 40 seconds. Looks like they used two sawzalls and it didn't take long.

I heard specific vehicles were being targeted for more valuable cats, and of course vehicles that are easier to get underneath.

Someone could do me a favour and steal the one out of my FRS so I can justify a new header…

Nope. It was done within a minute or two. If that.

    Car sits outside.

I would not consider protection for a vehicle that needs to be jacked up. So maybe you're not wasting your time.

Was it the element? I run this with two different types of fasteners so if they want the cat they REALLY have to be prepared

Not exactly “cost effective” but they will keep coming back and there aren’t many other “good” solutions. My dad’s eurovan got hit twice in two weeks, thankfully the exhaust design makes it near impossible to cut the cat fully off. We welded some rebar to it, but that really won’t do much against a sawzall with a good blade.

The best way to not get a cat stolen, is to not have one. Cat delete ftw.

Air bag suspension. Can't get under car. Ask for insurance break for it lol.

A skid plate might deter but also could cause more damage if they went for it and cut the plate off.

I think most types of firearms would work. I'm partial to simple.22 for economy.

    Buster got the order wrong.
It's birdshot, buckshot, birdshot, then buckshot(x3) because all bets are off.
