    Default V10 Audi R8

Who here has driven V10 manual R8? Any impressions, and those that haven’t driven it but considered it as potential purchase, what else did you look at? I’m considering my first ever exotic purchase, and it must be manual… don’t think there are many choices?

I’ve heard V8 version is quite docile, is V10 similar?

I have driven V10 s-tronic as well as V8 manual, so not quite what you're looking for but maybe enough to provide a helpful opinion. You're right about the V8, pretty sluggish around town in Calgary but with the satisfaction of a gated manual still makes it an enjoyable car. The V10 on the otherhand is much, much snappier. With the s-tronic the shifts are lightning quick but you definitely lose a lot of the essence of a drivers car without the third pedal. All in all, V10 gated would be a superb driver but after seeing the prices for them lately it's a tough decision value wise.

in that case I think there are better options... Gen 1 is pretty dated imo. Get a 911....

I have never felt "exotic" applied to this car.

When you go over $100k that’s pretty exotic… what’s the reasonable entry point for gated v10? $120-130?

Re GT3. I have e46/e90 M3 so looking for a completely different experience. Also, from what I gather - porsche tax on servicing is higher than R8… am I wrong?

What other exotic comes close to gated v10? Is huracan a more exciting car?
People have different definitions of "exotic", some thinks a Boxster is exotic....

Anyways. Good discussion, I think the gated manual tax is still high, but if you need a manual, the 911 Turbo would be the "better" car to have (boring to look at imo, R8 looks beter), I'd think servicing is cheaper too, as more indy shops can work on it.

    edit:
Lambo tax is high, its almost double the money if you want a Huracan,

I understand R8 to mambo tax, do driving dynamics justify it? I’m assuming it’s not double the car…

I've never driven a Hurcan, but I guess it depends if you're gonna track it. If you do, 911 is the better choice still lol.

I think it absolutely counts as exotic.

Especially considering how a lot of exotics are nowhere near as good as people think they are.

I assume his definition dictates an exotic must not come from North America, Germany or Japan, and/or have some sort of rarity metric. Or possibly a minimum annual maintenance spend that an Audi wouldn't even come close to? Idk.

Small, mid engine, impractical, rwd/awd, driver-focused, loud... checks all the boxes for my definition.

I don’t quite understand the appeal of 911s and for that much money, I’d like it to look the part… not for others but I’ve never found porsche that good looking. Now CGT is another story

Lots of wild assumptions there that I find pleasantly entertaining, unlike anything about this car.

The checklist of attributes, not so much. Regardless I will never look at one of these cars and have any sort of exotic thoughts about it. I would probably call a new Corvette an exotic before this.

There's just no wow factor to it for me. Sue me.

The appeal of the 911 is that it's even more understated than the R8. Porsche just makes excellent cars that can handle blasting out laps at the track and then go out for dinner without drawing a crowd. The R8 is a Lamborghini in a smoother suit; gated shifter, mid engined V-10, totally supercar.

    Interesting. Different strokes.

There's probably tons of people out there that share your POV re: wow factor of an R8. I'm not one of them, I think an R8 V10 has more wow than a 911 turbo, by a long shot (even if the 911 is the better/more capable car).

I'm camping with you on this one.
