    Who put their order in?

I’ve got mine in. Will be interesting to see if it gets accepted.

Will it be the next Tesla?

I don't think any "EV" can be the next Tesla honestly. At least not as an EV only company. Tesla gets dragged along because of the Elon factor, as well as all the other stuff outside of EV's he does to be sure. Love him or hate him, he is the reason people flock to Tesla. Kind of a "Celebrity Stock" status if you well.

The rivians didnt do too well in terms of range when it was very cold either atleast when it was on that tv show last year. If you havent watched it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Way_Up I would recommend it.

The feature I did like was the tow charge.

That's a problem for all EVs.

Amazon will prop RiVN up because Bezo doesn't want to lose to Musk in anything.

Finally got behind the wheel of the most exciting new truck in… ever?

I took the world’s worst pix so the first one is a press pic. Sorry. Was too busy being in the moment.

This is more than just another EV. This is the Tesla Moment for Trucks — that point at which there’s a real, actual, genuinely better alternative to what we know.

Many of you will say “bullshit, that thing will never replace an F-150.” And you’re right — it won’t work if you tow your boat 500 miles every day.

But like Model S was car, elevated, the R1T is pickup, elevated.

Not in a snooty sense. But in an intelligent one: what do people ACTUALLY do with their trucks? Because, if people do with their trucks what I see people actually doing with their trucks, this will do it better.

My experience was super limited. A couple minutes on an off-road course with an acceleration run. This isn’t a road taste — it’s an amuse-bouche.

And my bouche is amusée. Because:

A: It has a drift mode that let me do donuts. Quiet, delicious donuts.

    B: It’s fast as fuck.

C: It did shit off-road that I genuinely thought it wouldn’t do. Like never, ever bottom out. Ground clearance for days - with supple suspension compliance to match.

D: I think it has more storage space than my house. And a more powerful stove (Inductive cook-top? Yes.)

E: Derek Tam Hyphen Scott fit in the space normally reserved for inefficient packaging.

F: I think it’ll be amazing. As a car. On the road. In the world.

I hope I'll have more to say soon, but if my first impression is right: why would you buy anything else?

(Unless you tow your boat 500 miles a day.)
I find his opinions are generally pretty pragmatic and on point. Jonny Lieberman also raves about this thing, and he spent days in it (they created a 3 part road trip docu on MotorTrend).

Never played on IPO day before, because you know, it's a good idea to see how a company operates first.

But the hype is there. Do the general public just put market orders in before it opens and take whatever fill price it lands on?

Press event from Sep are mostly positive. Software still seems to be a bit underbaked at that point. They are also pulling a Tesla by delaying Oct deliveries to Feb 2022.

It's quirky. The only part I didn't like the frunk opening is too high. They need to copy what F150 Lightning is doing.

Was there any mention of what these will cost in CAD?

I've got Ford call options that expire in 2023 and 2024 so I have a bit of exposure to Rivian as Ford owns 12% of them.

The pricing has been online for almost a year now. Change to CAD at the top right. Pretty sure RBC is doing thier financing.

    https://rivian.com/configurator/r1t

    90 -130k CAD.

Not really that expensive for a new long range EV. The original Tesla Roadster was 100kUSD in 2008. A new Model X (The only one that can tow) is like 140k -170k CAD.
I think the Ford Lightning will be a bit cheaper since since half the truck is parts they already make.

I'm pretty excited for Rivian but the IPO is a nope. There will be a ton of price manipulation in the first year who knows what direction itl'l go.

Well, Rivian isn't the next tesla in terms of the whole company, because there is no "next tesla company", probably ever. But maybe the vehicle will be the next tesla, which would still leave room for incredible growth.
