Turbo isn't mounted yet. That's the "wrong" rad in there while waiting for the right one but as you can see there's a spacing issue.

As Sentry mentioned before about modifying the rad, looks like that's going to happen for different reasons.

All issues aside, I think the car will be running in the next couple weeks and all that will be left after that is to finish up the exhaust.

Pretty much all major things are complete:

-Motor / trans install (still have to install shifter)
-Fuel system is built and run. Still have to make fuel filler and final install tank.
-holley is mostly run, have some tidying to do but it's there
    -cold side pretty much complete
-downpipe still has to be built
-driveshaft still has to be made (2-3 day turnaround they tell me)

Some other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting right now but lots of progress made the last few weeks. Getting very excited.

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent stubby filter? (highway use) likely going to run a "cage" around town.

Also likely looking for a boost controller sometime soon too. In the mean time, going to run off the 10psi spring. That'll be plenty of power to shake down the car with

Doesn’t the the Term x do boost control? You just need a dome pressure sensor on the waste gate and Mac valve or something? I had it all planned out when I was going to do it. I have a turbo smart Mac valve left over I’d sell ya if you need one?

Sorry forgot to send you those pics, I’ll send today!

For a filter, just get the turbo all mounted and then measure what you got to work with and search by dimension on K&N's site. Fit the biggest one you can, they all cost around the same no matter what size. Build yourself a little list of part numbers that'll work and then call up mopac and see which one they have in stock.

JfuckinC - Yes, yes it does and you're right about doing it that way. I had forgotten about it. We can talk about your Mac valve when you send me those pics.

Sentry - Thanks once again. I come across lots of stories of collapsed filters. Maybe not as common as it seems, but I thought to ask.

There's a filler panel behind the grill, once the turbo is mocked up to its home position. Going to cut a box out of said panel for maximum air flow, so because of that should be able to fit a pretty big filter.

What kinda power you shooting for? Good sized filter you're not really leaving much on the table and it won't collapse. I do sometimes pull them off at the track if I need that extra cunthair 5-10 horsepower but you won't really notice it on the street.

This is the crown vics, about 10" long and also has that little internal cone on the end which adds even more surface area.

And actually, I've seen a turbo screen kill more power than a filter when it was a tight woven screen. 30whp from 620 to 650. Much less surface area than a filter, so if you do run a screen make sure it's a very coarse mesh.

In my head I'm shooting for 7xx whp as the magical number, just because but I won't go for that until I shake down the car and hopefully find no major issues to deal with. With the 10lb spring I've read similar combos putting down high 5s into 6xx, pending type of dyno of course.

This type is what I had in mind for daily, go to the filter for longer trips.

I’m with Sentry, just run a full filter all of the time. There could be a slight power difference but you’re not building a race car so you won’t notice anything. The Regal made 650 whp through a filter and the brown car makes a lot more through a filter.

And with the rad/manifold elbow clearance issue…you could just cut the manifold back and 90 to the fender sooner…looks like you have clearance there.

Manifold is too tight to the block to cut it back, modifying the rad will be the simplest solution.

As far as the filters go, I may end with both styles as aesthetically I like the cage but I know a true filter would be safest.

For your radiator Vibrant makes these lil guys, super tight radius, and you can cut one leg back to get it tighter to the rad if need be. Mopac has them.

    Thanks for the suggestion Sentry.

Some more little stuff done today but progress is progress.

Valve covers prepped, bungs welded for catch can and fresh coat of paint.

Shifter installed and as you can see, sits further back than the old one. TH350 vs 4l80.

Probably look for cup holders or something like that to mount in front of shifter. Possibly a full console.

Yeet the whole pump in the trash and get an electric volvo pump you can put anywhere you want. Just need greenline to build you a pressure hose, give it 12v ground and ignition power, done. Give Western a call or just trashpick one from a yard.

Alternatively, through some rockauto surfing you may be able to find a pump with a smaller pulley you can rob or install there.

Can you shim the engine up?

Or just notch the pulley a bit for clearance………….. jk

Alternatively order a tubular k-member and rack and pinion front end.

Honestly ICT billet has 50 different style brackets, when I had the LQ4 I just mixed and match what worked to fit, and they look way better than that truck bracket….. they’re honestly not that expensive for how much better the look IMO.. I got one powder coated satin black and it looked minnnnnt. If you ever wanna put AC on their lemme know I think I still have it lol.

Edit: sentry idea is good too, then just get an alternator only bracket .. pretty sure you can rig up electric power steering too, just trying to find an Instagram post about it to message you.

Sentry, electric pump - good idea.

ExtraSlow, it would definitely self clearance at some point.

90_Shelby, I feel like notching the pulley haha

JfuckinC, I know of ICT. Trying not to buy brackets, even though they'll look way better. Focus is up and running, don't care about making it pretty yet haha.

I'm thinking about trying a smaller pulley, seems like a popular option.
