    Default 1965 Lemans Gets Booosted

Car has been restored in the last 8 years but was kept more period correct with a worked Pontiac 400 motor, paired with a turbo 350 and backed with a posi rear end with 3.36 gears. Made the car a reliable boring around town cruiser.

I've never really seriously turned wrenches on cars in a long time (15-20 years) and really wanted to make this car my own and give it considerably more power. Never took on such a project but decided this car was the one it was going to happen with.

Reached out to Dario and picked up one of his 5.3 aluminum block & 4l80e combos.

Ordered a holley terminator max x system to control everything. One of their swap kits and turbo log.

Ordered a VS Racing gen 2.5 billet 7875 turbo kit with a 4" thick intercooler

Still have to buy a fuel system. Planning on getting a fuel tank made(locally in Red Deer), even though its not required, it's just how I want to do it. Planning on running 10an fuel feed, 8an return and likely ordering from hot rod fuel hose(locally in Lethbridge). Fuel pumps & injectors to be ordered yet as well.

I've been debating getting a new rear end for the car as well, the existing in the car likely won't live up to the new power for too long but I don't really know. Could be swayed either way but I'll likely just run the existing and replace it once it fails. (8.2 10 bolt, 28 spline axles with posi)

Just removed the old motor & trans last weekend, had a buyer lied up. Took longer than expected but its done and gone.

Few pictures below along with a disaster of a garage.

Pretty ambitious project was someone who hasn't busted knuckles for awhile, you're a brave man. The car looks great good luck.

Car is in really nice shape overall and I really like it considering a 65-67 gto was like a dream car when I was kid. This is as close as I'll get to a gto, no way I'd pay for a real one. The car desperately needs some power, I miss even what my Malibu had and that was an all motor car.
@JfuckinC - I figured I bugged you enough for updates and even a thread for your camaro that I should do one myself.
@dromz - I agree, it's an ambitious project but while I'm not a mechanic, I am a blue collar guy that turns wrenches for a living.

I'll likely need some luck along the way (wiring stuff)

@03ozwhip - you're a welder by trade aren't you? These ls swaps are way old news now, if I (think) can do it, you can do it haha. There's so much info out there, there's someone that's already done the swap and have shared the info.

Boys LS swaps are so easy! I’m a lowly desk jockey and mine is fine. The internet has every problem solved haha.

Hit me up with any questions for the Holley man, they’re pretty self explanatory but a couple quirks.

Seems like what's even easier than an LS swap is to the leave the motor that's in it, in it.

I'll keep that in mind JfuckinC.

    03, you can do it!

SKR I don't need any of that negativity around here. That old drivetrain was a dog. Besides, it's already out and sold. Have to put the new stuff in now.

I know, I just like that every LS swap conversation talks about how easy it is, while completely overlooking how much easier it would be to not do it in the first place. On the other hand, I'm very much against LS swaps for any reason, so maybe it's not my place to say what's easy and what isn't when I'm not willing to do it myself.

I understand what you're getting at and get it isn't your thing and that's okay. This is my thing though and once I get it swapped, up and running, I'll be able to really say how easy it is or isn't. All the info out there points to it being relatively easy.

Old cars with modern power is definitely my thing.though.

Little update: engine came with the stock truck intake and they're (imo) very ugly but perform very well compared to many aftermarket options that are considerably more expensive.

I was considering shaving the stock intake but honestly didn't want to take that on and I actually stumbled across a guy locally that does it.

So he has one ready for me to pickup

I'm likely going to paint the intake / valve covers / timing chain cover all the same color - thinking wrinkle black but haven't decided yet but that shaved intake looks much better than stock.

Man that is ugly, didn't realize you could just shave that down, figured all those nubs were good for some reason lol

You would think so, but from what I could dig up it doesn't seem like anyone has any problems doing it.

Worst case, it'll break and I'll have to buy another one.
