    Default WTB Travel bag

I don't know if this is the right forum to pay as it could go on travel as well. Looking to get a bag for traveling. I originally wanted something similar to the SOG Ops Com messenger but that's been discontinued. Then I looked at the 5.11 Rush messengers but they have been discontinued as well. The 5.11 over watch doesn't have a side pocket that would hold a good size container so that's out.

Wondering what to get and was hoping for some real world experiences. I've looked at the Nomatic Travel pack as well as Black Ember Forge and one from Aer.

Need to carry travel stuff, laptop, tablet odds and ends. Potential to one bag shorter trips etc.

    Look forward to your suggestions.

You can explore underseat duffel bags; Briggs and Riley makes nice ones and they're considered a personal item because it fits underneath the seat.

Not bad but no water bottle pouch which seems to be the challenge. Hoping to get dual purpose out of it. Good on plane but useable out n bout.

Sorry that's way too big I am looking at 20 to 30 l maximum. Ideally it will count as personal item or worst case scenario carry-on item.

I back packed to Asia and Europe with this duffle bag (laptop and camera gears) plus a carry-on roller bag.
    https://www.granitegear.com/travel/d...alt-flint.html

when not full it compresses easily and fits under the seat no problem, good material and has a chest strap too.
I also use it for work trips with a Timbuk2 messenger bag for laptop.

Have a couple of trips planned this year and I am going to try a Cotopaxi Allpa 40L and a PeakDesign 10L Sling bag setup next

You should check the Peak Design 10L sling bag, surprisingly for its size it can fit a lot. I had both 6L and 10L but decided to keep the 10L as it would be more versatile as I can fit a water bottle, camera, and slim laptop/ipad inside it no problem.

I have a MEC laptop backpack that I love, looks like they don't sell it any more. Counts as a personal item, very rectangular. No exterior water bottle pouch though, and to be honest it's not the greatest "out and about daypack".

    Have you looked at Osprey..?
I use the 40L backpack for backpack travelling and carry on. It has a pouches for water, laptop etc. I actually use it all the time now as its so versatile.

They have smaller ones that might be suited to what you are looking for. You can filter by size on the side.

Patagonia are having a sale. But I have no idea on the quality.

Daily: I just rock a Pacsafe sling. Anti knife fabric and secured zippers. Fits up to an 11" tablet. I need a water bottle, I'll just s biner one off it.

Between accommodations, just really my good old MEC backpack that can swallow the sling and a laptop (if I'm travelling with a laptop at all).

I really don't travel with laptop these days, just VPN home and RDP into my PC on my tablet if I need a PC. Data is cheap everywhere but North America.

The days of carrying a 10L+ pack with me daily is well behind me. Nor I want to in major Asian/European cities.

There are tons of day pack idea off youtube. See which one speaks to you. Just search on EDC.

Interesting, how was the RDP experience for you from Europe and Asia.
Been also considering not carrying a laptop anymore but worries that RDP experience would be painful, especially in places with crappy wifi. Although I dont recall having to RDP while on vacation the past couple of years.

YMMV. But I have had better experience off 4G than hotel/public wifi. Sometimes have no luck with VPN off some wifi but 4G hotspot is good as long as signal strength is good.

Asia and Europe are about the same.

Again, my workflow doesn't really need a PC with me. I'm not a social media whore that need to video edit and post daily or something. I only used it to basically sending daily backup of video/picture back to NAS at home. A tablet (or I should say a cheap ass 10" Chromebook) can do that just as well.

Looks ok but I wanted a bit more capacity then the 10l. Would be nice to be able to stuff a light coat or hoody in/out etc.

The key isn't to have a bigger bag, but a smaller collapsible jacket.

There are lighter ones that fold down smaller too.

Again, my experience is mostly city bound and minimalist. I don't think it'll be good for hiking or more outdoorsy activities.

If laptop/dslr/drone are coming with me, I rock this one.

That one's not bad other than no dedicated laptop compartment.

dont the 10L size fool you, this can pack quite a bit for its size.
this is with a 13” laptop and a light down jacket. still have space for a camera, water bottle if I want to.

I also bring a small and light 3L fanny pack and yeah it is useful for light walks, I can squeeze a water bottle, phone and cash.

If you want to go as big as a 30L, I use the Topo Designs global travel bag. Converts from a backpack to an over the shoulder. Has a spot for your laptop. Won't fit under the seat but easily fits in any overhead bin.

Im a big fan of the Patagonia Black Hole bags... go from 30L and up. Actually it sounds like the black hole mini may fit your needs quite well.
