Agreed. BC needs to see a 150% carbon tax increase and 100% on fuel.
They've been sucking the suzuki koolaid so long they'd probably accept it and really believe they're changing the world...

There's actually a waiting list for "renewable" CNG - where you pay a LOT more for natural gas because they claim it's from renewable sources (how would you really know anyway same pipeline for effs sake).

Everything here is about the appearance of being green. Not actually doing anything. Just like that parking tax they were talking about - but you only got taxed if you PARKED on the roadway, if you had a driveway or underground parking - you didn't have to pay

Everyone is waiting for the water to lower. They’re up in the air today and tomorrow doing visual, then start ILI’s Thurs/Fri
we already have had our repair crews in the air this morning, and expected to have some stuff mitigated pretty quickly. Probably not as fast as CP rail operates, but we are usually pretty quick too to recover from disasters like this.

Back in the Fort Mac fire days, we had all services restored to all buildings, residential and commercial, before the evacuation orders were lifted. When people arrived home we had welcome home letters attached to each dwelling.

So... Yeah about that... It's about to get worse.

TIL that stretch between abbotsford and chiliwack used to be a lake/swamp; and pumphouses are all that are preventing it from returning to a lake.

Sumas lake coming back? Never knew that was a thing, holding back all that water and relying on a pumping station. What did they expect?

Article from 4 years ago pretty much explained it all.

Interesting post on sumas lake thats floating around today.

Article mentions its the nooksack that's the unknown flood risk - mayor's saying it's the nooksack that's the source of much of this flood.

This seems like such a typical government cluster*uck.

What I want to know. How is Alberta supposed to get cheese.

If the highway and rail is out, and because it is illegal to transport cheese into Canada from the USA (the only other workaround). Are we supposed to survive on the absolutely tiny amount we produce locally? They forced that cop from Ontario to quit on the cheese smuggling charge.

Never liked the idea of illegality of transporting inexpensive food. Or maybe the reason is distrust of US cheese (hormones or nuclear waste? really?)

All this talk of illegal guns and bullets. Legalize US cheese already dairy cartel bastards.

    Heres a better demonstration.

So this pumping station just acts as a big sump pump for the area?

So this is Highway 1 by Lytton:

What do you think the odds are that this will be repaired and opened by Wednesday next week?

Crazy shit. How is that not going to be months to fix? How quickly was the highway repaired around Canmore in 2013?

At least that’s hwy 1 beyond either hwy 5 or 99… not as critical for interprovincial travel

They put in a new road fairly quickly. That's nothing though compared to this.

It was like 6 days, but i think they were able to detour around it as well. This one is a hell of a lot more km to try to fix though, and the slopes on hwy 1 in the thompson canyon are going to be hell to try and repair with just fill.. It'll be a lot of work

Think highway 5 took the worst of it

Yea the Coq is way worse than Hwy 1.

So what’s the likely outcome here?

Some patchwork of highway 1, 5, and 97 to get things moving?

Maybe a bit of 3 as well?

Any overland travel to lower mainland is going to be a clusterfuck for 2-3 weeks minimum even if they get some of the routes open. Count on single lane alternating traffic over temporary gravel roads. Probably going to become an 18 hour drive.
What I heard was they think Highway 3 will be the first to open.
Google shows current fastest route is through Spokane and Seattle (15 hours). Of course, you'd need to budget some time for testing each way, so really a 2-3 day travel time each direction.

Coworker was on vacation in Vancouver when this happened. Now he's stuck there because they didn't bring their passports, and can't afford the entire logistics of flying home. Fortunately he's staying with family, so no hotel costs.

If we evenly distribute the weight and go super fast with a train we should be good 42/100 times.
