WestJet cancels all direct flights to Belize

During part of the year WestJet normally offers a direct flight from YYC to BZE. Its pretty great and I've taken this exact flight before. Fly in Friday, leave the next Friday, good timing.

I just booked my next vacation for March and a few weeks later they redirect my flight through YYZ at midnight?! Weird. Go do some searching. The WS2216 flight is just totally gone now.

Any beyonders have an inside connection as to what happened? They just up and removed all the direct flights YYC to BZE. I can live with the redirect, just confused to this business decision. Covid maybe? not enough bookings?

Not enough bookings.

Happened to me YYC->LGW on a Saturday landing became YYC->YYZ->LGW on a Friday landing all of a sudden.

Yeah from what I've read elsewhere, WJ has been regularly changing or cancelling flights due to lack of bookings.

It makes sense as far as not wanting to run flights at a loss but sucks for us who get fucked by it.

My return flight from Kauai for my trip in January was just cancelled 2 days ago, awaiting a call back from them to sort out a better option than what they rebooked me for which is flying out the following night and having me incur costs for a hotel room/rental car/food.
