I can’t recommend transport but have stayed in that area before. Beautiful little spot, take the public transport to Sayulita for lunch or dinner. Charming little surf town
For what its worth, Sayulita is no longer a charming boho surf town... it has been a major target for development and if you liked the old Sayulita, you are better off going down the highway 20mins to San Poncho.

We're staying just near Punta Mita for our kids spring break. Suggestion on which of the three is better with small humans just to wander around? Sayulita, Punta Mita (looks like nothing there), or San Poncho?

More restaurants in Sayulita... Punta Mita still has some decent ones, but is typically more high end. San Poncho would be the least developed of the 3 and more old mexican. All depends what you are looking for.

If the kids are little, they don't get a lot from being out of the resort. That being said, culturally, mexicans love kids, and restaurants are often quite accommodating to kids.

Casa Paraiso is a beautiful spot with incredible views. Highly recommend. I still think Sayulita is quite charming, but that could just be me.

7 and 4, I'd at least like them to get some exposure to the culture not inside the resort.

But yeah - no coco bongo.

And Mexican kids love pick pocketing tourists outside the resort. Win-win.

As others have said, San Pancho is pretty good. The waves can be quite fun, but maybe a little big for small kids (every week is different).

Sayulita is more of a party town, especially right now ( semana santa) but it's nicer to walk around in. They have some decent restraunts, but the water isn't good for swimming, despite all the surfers.

I haven't spent much time in Punta Mita because it seemed kind of boring to me, but Playa La Lancha is a decent beach and it's just a little further south.

Anyone take their laptops with them recently or is that sketchy as fuck? going for a wedding in playa del carmen(all inclusive) and would like to work on the long flight down and back... my laptop most likely won't fit in a safe.

Probably been mentioned already but I'm lazy.

Heading down to all inclusive at Xmas.
Haven't been to Mexico since I was a teen.
What is the current tipping culture? Mexican pesos or American $$ or combination of both?

We will be with our two very young kids (4, 1.5) and likely won't be leaving the resort.
For context, 5*, Family oriented resort.

American $. Have a bunch of 1's and 5's with you, probably good enough.

EDIT: Beyond the typical tipping at bars and such, I also leave $5-$10 each morning under a pillow for room service staff. Under the pillow is somehow a universal sign to them that they can have it and then my room is stocked up the wazoo every day.

Maids only skim credit cards, I've never had "stuff" go missing.

Tipping in pesos is fine if that's what you have.

Pesos or USD are both fine in Mexico, whichever you find most convenient, the locals don't care much, there's an active currency exchange in every tourist town for resort workers. And, for a trip where you will be stay inside the resort mostly, and have little kids, you don't have to tip every drink, what you do is post up in the same few spots, get to know the staff there, chat them up a bit, remember their names, use thier names when you see them, tip well the first time you see them every day, and every few drinks after that.

Depending on the layout of your particular resort, you may find the closest bar to the kids pool is in the lobby or a short walk away. Even if you aren't sitting right there, you remember them and they'll remember you.

Main thing is bring lots of small bills. The resort will try and charge you a fee to break big bills. Sometimes the bartenders would but some also tried to pocket extra as a tip.

Mexicans prefer pesos bc they don’t have to exchange.

Never heard of a resort up charging to break bills. It’s literally for their staff and would make zero sense for them to pull that shit

More or less tip whatever you have to tip with. If you are planning to convert for tip money, then just convert to pesos, as it saves the workers having to convert back in order to spend it.
