I've never understood why a Canadian would pay to change their currency to something other than that of the country they're travelling to, only to have the resident of that country pay AGAIN to change it back to their own.

If I was a resident of said country, that kind of bullshit would make me cut the heads off of tourists.

some people prefer USD, they keep it as an investment, as their own local currency can fluctuate more, seen this in lots of countries, they also treat CAD like it’s worthless lol

Most people who work in the service industry down here live day to day though. They don't have much to get by, let alone invest. And to be fair, it's because the CAD pretty much is worthless. Lol

I've heard that (prefer USD) from Americans before, but every time I've been able to get a straight answer from a resident of Mexico (working at the resorts) and they know I'm not American, they always say they prefer Pesos. I suspect they tell Americans they like USD just to keep the tips flowing. Of course the resort staff will always accept USD but given the choice I truly think they prefer Pesos. I get why Americans don't want to pay to change their currency, albeit a little arrogant, but for a Canadian to use USD instead of Pesos just doesn't make sense.

FYI Dreamliners can’t power workstation laptops, so don’t bother bringing yours if they need more than 40hz from the plug lol

I've had the opposite experience. Multiple members of the service staff over the years have told me they prefer USD cause it's a stronger currency and also because they don't go through regular means to get exchanges done. They can somehow get better value for it than someone attending at a currency exchange office would. But anyway what the fuck do I care. I take my USD and tip in my USD, not my issue if they don't like it. They can return the money to me if that's the case. Fuck coddling to that extent that you're giving someone free money and that too you need to make it so convenient for them. Haha.

The more convenient it is for them, the better ROI you’ll get on your tip. Contrary to what you seem to think, tipping is actually all about the recipient . It actually is your issue if they don’t like it, cause you’ll be wasting your money and/or getting shitty service.

Haha tell that to the bar service lady we gave a $100 USD bill to the very first day we got to the Hard Rock in Punta Cana some time ago and she plastered us with copious amounts of drinks the whole week every time we stepped into the pool. Plus she got a little extra here and there and was over the moon. Trust me, they are grateful regardless of what and how much you give them. Or at the very least they should be. And if they aren’t well then they are still going to be doing to same shit but now with no additional tip.
