That's why Alonso made that point.

Hamilton knew exactly what he was doing in AD.
I don’t disagree that stupid get away with shit first lap needs to be addressed. The interpretation is stupid. Alonso stuff is ok, Hamilton off track was ok. Leclerc taking out stroll was ok but silverstone wasn’t?

It’s a highly competitive sport. Everyone is going to push the limits of what’s allowed. The only consistency is inconsistency and that’s a problem. This isn’t anything new. I doubt this year will be the last of the inconsistencies. Every sport has this problem. This year has been extreme in the inconsistencies, one can only hope that gets dialed back a bit.

On a separate note, why the fuck have we not heard news of Masi getting fired and getting 10 lashes on his bare ass - punishment United Arab Emirates style.

I think Masi gets fired. Not for any specific decision, but because his inconsistency and general lack of effective decisiveness is not good in that job.

I think the electronic gravel trap idea is great - I was suggesting it before this article. I think it will improve the racing. The AD example is a perfect one. Hamilton did not even bother defending down the inside to prevent max from diving down there. He knew that he could just stay to the outside rather than compromise the perfect line. Worst thing that happens is that he has to go into the runoff and give up a position. Best thing that happens is he doesn't have to give up the position. In either case, watching Hamilton say "fuck it, take the inside IDGAF" is too me boring racing.

If there is any change it will wait until after new FIA president is voted in.

Ross brawn already enacted a change for next year. Team principals not allowed to communicate with race director.

I remember Balestre cancelling GroupB in 1986. Man, I loved Group B.

Oh wait, never mind, I'm a Drive to Survive racing fan.

Why not have track limit sensors and time/long lap penalties like MotoGP? Or red flags and green-white-checker restarts for late-race cautions like NASCAR?

I get that F1 is the best, but holy fuck do they ever act like these problems don't have solutions.

Edit: or say fuck it, and race the entire season at Macau. No problems with run off areas because there aren't any.

I have to assume that the best drivers in F1 can mostly avoid going off-course if they choose to.
So if we want to keep em on-course, they need to really hate the penalty for being off-course.
