    Taxi Mafia rules the roads.
If anything was going to be called a Mafia, Nenshi should have used it at this industry.

Uber anywhere else in USA is a steal of a deal. Definitely outweighs renting a car in LA.

The people driving Uber are no better or worse than the people driving taxi's. The cars are mostly the same here in Cowtown.
The benefit used to be the app and shorter wait times. I will investigate the taxi apps some day and compare.
News flash. They're the same driver's. Uber drivers are also cabbies (some of them).

Unskilled drivers are a fungible resource.

Go with Mayfair for taxis, they seem to be least busy as nobody thinks of them (they have an OK app), but I think they only service the dirty south and downtown. Uber can never find my house, I gave up on that after the 3rd or 4th try.

Mayfair has a good customer base of the elderly. I took them on Saturday to go downtown. Less than twenty dollars. I checked Uber at the same time and they wanted $36. So taxi definitely won for the trip there. Taxi was 10min early though, so he had to sit and wait for us.

Trip home we took Uber because the price was the same as the taxi, but there was one a block away from us. No cabs that we could see.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Need something when your LWB RR is in the shop, and the Cullinan won’t start.

Well, had the opportunity to use Uber and cabs out of peak times today between the same two points. Uber was $19, Associated Cabs was $25. Both prices before tip. I think the cabbie deliberately too a longer route even after I gave them a suggested route. Vehicles were both shitboxes and drivers were both equally low skill.
So, today, see no real reason to use cabs unless Uber is doing surge pricing.
