Lot 40 or Northern Harvest if you want pronounced rye notes.

Avoid Bulleit Rye - unless you want a cheap rye for cocktails (I've been using it in Gold Rushes).

I have a co-worker who swears Alberta Springs is the pinnacle. He's been around the world and spent a lot of time drinking with rich people. But he's a weirdo, so this reccomendation is suspect.
I used to think Canadian Club was cool because I'd drank it on four continents and it has the royal warrant.

These days I'd probably say Northern Harvest. But I hardly drink Rye anymore.

I have an electrician buddy that came over and ran my 240 for my welder and heater in my shop, so I wanna buy him a bottle, rye is what he likes, I don't really drink it.

The Alberta Distillers Cask Strength Rye is fantastic, grab one if you can find them on the shelf. Alberta Distillers actually bulk supplies a lot of other higher end Rye for brands like Whistle Pig, Basin Haydens etc... They make good whisky, just avoid the standard Alberta Premium.

Actually, the Alberta Premium that won the World Whisky of the Year shocked me! I am not a rye drinker except for mixing, and I resisted buying this because there was no way it could be legit, but then a buddy showed up with a bottle and I was impressed! Cask strength at over 60% ABV it is not for the faint hearted, but as a slow sipping whisky drinking it neat it was really nice! I keep a couple bottles now as nothing touches it for the dollar amount and it is fun to shock people who assume all rye whisky is bad whisky for sipping, which I include myself in that statement haha! It destroys the Crown Golden Harvest by a mile...

I am not even remotely kidding... I like to think I am a bit of a whisky snob and not wholly uneducated on the subject, and I will always keep a bottle around now! By no means is it a replacement for my favourite Scotches, but it certainly is not a slouch of a rye...

As my wife expanded her retired oak barrel business this past July to include whiskey barrels, we have been fortunate (or not) to have some barrels since that time that are wet, some very wet as in 3 to 7+ liters from a single barrel.

They are all retired oak whiskey barrels from Alberta Distillers and since mid-July I have pulled about 50 liters of the whiskey out of barrels which has tested anywhere from 70 to 140 proof with the bulk of it ranging from 80 to 125.

The color and taste range is absolutely amazing and even though I am not much of a drinker I am beginning to notice and appreciate the differences between of what comes out of different barrels - please note these are the thoughts of someone who'd be considered barely a cretin by some of beyond's members so take this for what it is, I just consider it a nice side bonus of my wife's barrel business and with access to over 3,200 barrels we have stored nearby there's most likely a wee bit more rye whiskey in my future.
