It's as if you didn't need to take ECON 201 & 203 for a political policy role.

Shit I realized this should probably have gone into the ":windfall profits" thread and not this one. Although it's all connected.
What baffles me is that people don't understand that capping prices or raising taxes both have the pretty clear impact of reducing future supply. I would suggest that increasing future supply would be most beneficial to taxpayers and citizens in the EU.
Hey same region where Nazis came from, so not a surprise.
Artemis should be launching any day now. Probably enough fuel burned in an hour to keep 100,000 UK citizens from freezing this winter.
Sounds an awful lot like the F-35, that is - it leaks. But hey - Must spend money on Ego Superiority, gotta build the bomb to have it burst in air.
Bezos rocket did the US national anthem. I can imagine though, since US dollars buy ego, and Bezos has already done his trip. There is absolutely no reason to let any other billionaire use his spaceship to make it to space at any price, so all is good? Planned failure I bet.
It was perfectly on queue: 1 in 23 rockets failing.

Week long California heatwave pushed day ahead prices to $1 per kwh. Difference being that blackouts are pretty much expected by Californians nowadays.

So, some parts of the EU will "cap" prices and profits on non-gas generated power, some places will subsidize certain forms of energy, and some places will subsidize all forms of power consumption. I am continuing to forecast supply shortages throughout Europe and the UK this winter. I also predict that in some areas, those shortages will be severe enough to be dangerous to human life and health.
That's just the return of covid.
Sounds to me like government is the actual danger here. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

My prediction...
Western Europe starts to freeze but since Ukraine conflict isn't over, we're either going to see Western Europe arm Ukraine to the fucking teeth so that they start beating back Russia, or, strike up a deal to "appease" Russia (that is - give Ukraine away) in order to secure a supply of cheap gas.
Neither of these options are smart, therefore I think that makes them highly likely to be selected.
Ukraine "winning" the war isn't going to help Europe's energy supply in any way. I actually wonder if Europe will start exerting pressure for a ceasefire that gives Russia significant concessions in order to secure natural gas supply.
So nobody cares we pay more for power than Europe, who is supposedly in an energy crisis??
LOL. And Ukraine has lost the war already. We just haven't heard about it in the west yet, and keep getting told "just a few more billions and a few more tanks, and anytime now Ukraine will win." lol.
MAGA = My Ass Got Arrested.
Beware the passive aggressive Mean Girls. Vengie, Killramos, Penismightier, buster, jrscoolude, etc who bully others into their circle jerk opinion, serially negging you, while claiming they ignore you and don't obsess over you.
PSA. High school is not a popularity contest little girls
Well, this is all the environmentalist want all along anyway. What better way to quit fossil fuel than cold turkey...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There is an argument to be made that Putin is playing military strategy for economic dominance.
If he "wins" Ukraine too early, he will not have an immediate justifyable reason to keep the natgas taps turned off over this winter. By keeping the taps off this winter, he effectively weakens the entire Europa. Which in the long run, if Putin intends to take more in the next decades - makes more sense.
Military strategy 101, money means nothing if the enemy starves trying to defend against you.
There is no energy crisis according to the USA, Artemis will burn that fuel, whether it makes it to the moon or becomes the national anthem. There is however, a food crisis - at least according to Biden "Going to be real".

I think the fact that Ukraine took back Kharkiv is exactly what we expected in this war. It'll be back and forth and expensive. And allies and Russia are both showing fatigue. Ukrainians will go hard the next month or so to make sure the rest of the Europe won't abandon them.
When even Chinese media is showing Kharkiv victories by Ukrainians, you know it's not going well for Putin.

Yup, and the twenty year in Afghanistan was simply to keep the US military complex rich. Its not always best to just steamroll over an enemy.

News in Spain yesterday was about the potential for some energy-intensive industries to be forced to close by the government. Should be great for Europe's already battered economy...
