Default No More 5-cyl Audis for Canada

Saw this on reddit. Tis a sad day. No more 5-cyl audis for Canada (Currently RS3, TTRS) due to some emissions reasoning. I was wondering where they were as the New S3 is up on the website but the RS3 never appeared. Was wondering if we would get an RSQ3 as well, but maybe we can still hope for an SQ3.

edit: wait a second. Quick googling says we were supposed to get the RSQ3 as of 2020 but I am guessing covid killed that and now also this emissions stuff.

Wow, I never knew that the TTRS was a 5-cyl.

Too bad. It is a cool engine.

But makes sense. Just crank out the 4 cylinders and boost it more.
I mean, heck bring a 3 cylinder turbo like what's in the Yaris GR and put it in a sub 2800 lb AWD car and it will be a huge winner.

Something related to the coolant? that's just bizarre. It's still a go down south. Who the hell knows? Nothing makes sense anymore.

Audi cancels the only reason to buy an Audi.

And here I thought they stopped making 5-bangers 25 years ago. Meh.

RS3's are amazing. Prices are going to go up on them now for sure. AWD launch control in that thing is a hoot

That really sucks! A distinctive element of the Audi sound gone. Sigh, more 4 cylinder turbo blah noises.

I think all the VAG 07k's have forged bottom ends. You can yank the 2.5L N/A block out of a MK5 Jetta and boost the shit out of it like a TTRS.

It's an awesome motor, makes awesome noise and is synonymous with Audi. Sucks that it's going away. Planning to eventually use one in my UrQ.

I'm not clear on what registration laws changed making it unable to bring this engine to Canada. They don't really elaborate. I have seen on other forums that that angle is that with parts shortages they want to allocate more of these vehicles for the USA but I don't know if I buy that. As others have said this engine is really the best thing the brand has going for it.

I’m guessing it has less to do with Canadian regulations and more to do with VWAG cost cutting.

8J TTRS’s are going to be worth $$$ in the future. I’ve been saying it for a while!
