    Default Car Insurance and Employees

For people with Nannies and other in care home services, do you add anything to your car insurance policy or do they have to add anything to their car insurance policy to be on the right side of the law in regards to accidents?

As in if they are driving your vehicle? Yes, you need to add them as a driver.

You buy Insurance to protect you.

Are they driving your car which could expose you to loss or liability? Then you should insure that exposure.

Well you can't buy insurance on someone else's car, regardless of them being your employee or not.

Does this employee drive at your bidding? Probably should be paying them per km.... But that's nothing to do with insurance or risks.

Not your problem, but yes they should adjust their policy if they’re driving for work

Well we don't need a nanny, but we are hiring a lady to take the MIL to her doctor appointments which is every 2 months or so - the lady will only be driving her maybe 30 mins every 2 months. She asked us if we need to buy extra insurance. I said no "we" dont but you might. Personally I use my own car to drive myself to worksites all the time but perhaps I should be hiring cars because commercial car insurance sounds expensive, its prob alot more expensive than the benefit of driving someone 6 times a year for less than 2 or 3 hours total.
