Supposed to go to 800 m3/s by thursday.. it'll get bigger. Honestly, i just hope they remember to close the gates, last year we struggled with low water all season since they ran the gates as flood mitigation w/ zero flooding..
Agree. I'm going to be mad when Ghost is low all August.

yeah Bragg Creek has risen. That town has some significant flood defenses too.

I thought the taxes I pay are supposed to eliminate these weather events.

I'd like to speak to the manager

Well they haven't held any water back at ghost dam. Not a drop.
The predicted level at Ghost is still dropping. (below Transalta’s lower limit) Elbow is the problem anyway, not the Bow.

Here’s all the live data and some webcams for pretty much every tributary in the province.

This feels like an overreaction across the board because media and city officials miss the excitement of covid waves.

The original title of this article was "Calgary Rivers Reaching Peak Levels as City Remains Under State of Emergency" which prompted a pile of messages from family and friends across Saskatchewan asking if it was another 2013. They've since changed it to something less exciting to match the nothing burger.

This wind could fuck off though

How else can the city justify keeping thousands of just in case staff on the books if they never use them.

Elbow at Bragg has already started to crest. Looks like a pile of the rain fell as snow (powder day at Highwood pass opening day?!)

Joyti doesn't know it any other way.
Typical spring flooding in localized, usual flood locations.
    Warn those residents.

I don't have time to look, but anyone who wants to put some graphs together could do so here comparing Y/Y:

    https://wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/report/...ml?stn=05BH004.

The Annual Daily Extremes for water level shows that we rarely go over 2m. The 2013 flood was >4 m, and about x6 the discharge rate of current.

bow river at Calgary HAS NOT GONE UP SIGNIFICANTLY. Flood defenses upstream HAVE NOT YET HELD ANY WATER BACK.

I reiterate that this is a compelte nothingburger.

I’ve just been checking out the snowpack in the mountains via sunshine webcams, weather is supposed to hit double digits tomorrow but who knows what that means:

Melting due to warm weather is pretty gentle in terms of impacts on river levels. Not going to make any difference.

One great thing about the wind is that it blew off all the baby spruce tree cones that suddenly popped out of my tree in the last month. I wasn't looking forward to them getting big and then dropping. The mower will have no problem sucking them up.
