Doesn't the heat pumps stop working around -20C? Haven't looked at Teslas in a while but other EVs tend to just use a resistive electric heater when its too cold. Wonder if their software update changed that to 'improve efficiency/range'

Tesla has the following recommendations to hopefully prevent the issue from happening in the first place.

“Current mitigations are to precondition the vehicle 30-60 minutes prior to departure, use recirculating air mode and use auto mode. Symptoms may still occur when driving in climates -15°C and below. If heat does not return please park vehicle in a warmer location and allow vehicle to warm up.
    Some high quality right there.

That's funny, they are quoting a Beyond member in that article too.

Yup. It’s a car designed in California for California.

Wipers suck and the new software update is brutal and you can’t go back.

I'm happy for this new software update in this CLIMATE EMERGENCY. Everyone needs to do their part in excessive electricity wastage. I would not own a tesla without indoor parking.

Gibbons says the purchase was motivated by a desire to save money on fuel costs during his work commute from Calgary to Canmore.
Interesting commute. I wonder how many years it would take to offset the cost of a new Telsa vs say lightly used or new hybrid.

I had that issue and the recent software update seemed to have fixed everything so far. Now only two issues left - my driver wiper blade sprayer sucks ass in this weather and my driver side window fogs up like crazy.

I will say I was pretty annoyed with near $70k car that I have stupid ass issues like this - but at least the software update came out pretty quick. But someone derped real hard when then pushed out the v11 update and didn't check everything for cold weather users

Something tells me there was some marth involved, and it was just a means to justify a 'nice to have' car, not a real biz case.

    Marth justifying buying an EV?

    You don’t say!

I had no idea - I just thought the quote looked funny backwards. I have nothing specifically against Tesla or their owners. (Unlike Prius).
I own more than one vehicle that I certainly can't and won't drive at these temps, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Hybrid wont' save you any money vs ICE if you are on No.1 daily for 45mins each way.

What he need is a good V8.

Sounds like he needs to rethink his living arrangement.

The garage part is the truth. I would go father and say you need heated indoor parking. My cars are struggling hard with an unheated garage.

My use case was simple until Covid. 60km out and return commute daily with kids activities on weekend. Cost me $600 per month in gas for the Expedition. I got free charging at work so that translated to $7K a year savings on fuel cost alone. Pays for itself pretty fast.

A Hybrid doesn't really save fuel on the highway. It works best in stop and go traffic.

I see on Tesla forums some owners in rainy climates claim the wipers are downright dangerous.

Couldn't you have bought basically any vehicle and save money over the fuel an Expedition uses?

Do EV's have a "block" heater plug, where you can keep your batteries warm with a normal 110v outlet, but not have to use a charging cord?

Can’t you charge an EV on 120V it’s just slow? I’m guessing that’s the answer to that rather than put in another redundant heater.
