Has anyone factored the costs of electricity it takes to charge the vehicle at home if you do not have a free charger at work? IRC, I had a colleague say he estimated the usage of electricity he uses to charge his Telsa at home vs. Gasoline costs, and the savings are far less when cross referenced.

I think it's awesome that you guys all know what your mileage is.

    I have no clue. I couldn't estimate it within 50% I bet.

You're colleague doesn't know how to do math then. At 6c/kwh it takes $5 to "fill" a Model 3.

The math is super easy to do yourself. Look up the km/kWh and the monthly electricity price.

My Sr+ got 136wh/km in the first 16000 km over almost a year. At 6c, that's .81c per km... But 6c isn't really a fair rate because of all the costs on the loaded rate. So even doubling that to 12c is 1.6c per km or 1.60$ per 100km. The Sr+ is very efficient, but the actual running costs for an ev are piddly.

This is why I have a vehicle with 1100km highway range.

I've actually heard of people doing nearly 1500 on a tank in similar vehicles, but I've never had an average that would indicate that much.

So, if it wasn't for your EV, you wouldn't be on the electrical grid? You're paying that "loaded" rate anyways, EV or not, so it stands at 6c/kwh to charge a car.

I have to scroll past it on the info screen to get to other stuff I want to see (e.g., range).

There are variable fees on my bill anyway that are in addition to the cost of the energy. All the transmission and distribution tax etc. Stack on top of the base electrical rate. These are calculated based on consumption.

The fees are broken down pretty well with Enmax on their tariff schedules.

    RATE
DISTRIBUTION CHARGE FOR DISTRIBUTION ACCESS SERVICE
Service and Facilities Charge per day $0.592995
System Usage Charge per kWh $0.011928

TRANSMISSION CHARGE FOR SYSTEM ACCESS SERVICE
    Variable Charge per kWh $0.038763
So my actual usage is 6.69 cents (electricity) + 1.19 cents (distribution) + 3.87 cents (transmission) = 11.75 cents per kwh. The hyundai Ioniq 5 I looked at uses 18 kwh/100km so 2.11$ per 100km.

With gas sitting at ~1.35$ per liter that amounts to roughly 1.56L/100km equivalent. A model 3 would get even better than that.

Hard to say. Haven’t given it a good highway run yet.

-30 and lots of remote starts hell no.

When I picked it up the range said 960km I think? Maybe possible on shell gas if you hypermile?

The garage part is the truth. I would go father and say you need heated indoor parking. My cars are struggling hard with an unheated garage.
I think your unheated garage is attached too? In this -25C cold snap, I’ve found that my unheated attached garage ranges from 0C to -5C. The Teslas would probably fare even worse if parking outside.

I sold my 2011 535 xDrive m sport that I got tuned Auto Trend. I was averaging about 6.5 to 7.5 per 100 km highway and about 8 city. This Tesla when it's in the -20's the heat is spotty as hell. I am missing my BMW for sure. I don't think tesla really has any real fix with out adding a secondary heat source.

It was -7 this morning. right at the limit of where the car tries to heat the battery.
